WD40 was used. The head was placed face (pins) down in a small tray with about 1/8" of WD40 and allowed to soak for about 10 minutes. Amazing the built up crud that came off. The only caution is to be careful not to get any solution on the circut board. (The printhead was missing and printing incomplete characters before the cleaning. Worked like a champ afterwards.) After soaking the printhead was place on a paper towel for about another 10 minutes to drain off any excess. The circut board was gently cleaned with a sponge tipped swab and tape head cleaner(90% isopropyl) to remove any dust, and then dried with a can of commercial compressed "air".
