See http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n11358. This can be used to patch your GS into an ethernet network via a Mac. I tried printing over it -- no way. > what *is* possible? I just tried using LocalTalk Bridge, and it seemed to work fine for both tasks - connecting to a Mac and printing. The network was as follows: LocalTalk Ethernet IIgs ------------- PowerMac ------------ HP LaserJet 6MP (bridge) The PowerMac was set to use the Ethernet for AppleTalk, and was running LocalTalk Bridge. I could do a slightly more complex test once I get my SE/30 working again: LocalTalk Ethernet IIgs ------------- SE/30 ------------ HP LaserJet 6MP (bridge) | ------- PowerMac I originally had my network configured as follows: Ethernet LocalTalk PowerMac ------------ SE/30 ------------ HP LaserJet 6MP (bridge) | ------- IIgs At this stage, I was only running LaserWriter Bridge on the SE/30. For the IIgs to log onto the PowerMac, I had to switch the PowerMac to use LocalTalk. (LaserWriter Bridge was a crippled freeware version of LocalTalk Bridge, only supporting bridging communication with Postscript laser printers.) I later got an Ethernet-to-Parallel adaptor for the LaserJet (in this case an HP JetDirect EX), and ended up with the second diagram (except the LaserJet is normally connected to both Ethernet and LocalTalk). -- David Empson dempson@actrix.gen.nz Snail mail: P.O.
