My old Performa 405 stopped working dang it! It was so cool because it sat below the GS, was plugged into the Kensington fan thing and ran headless as the pass-thru for my GS. This was on my Network from Heck as the dedicated Apple II server. So, I dusted off an old IIci, added a Daystar 040 accelerator card, popped a NuBUS NIC in, installed Mac OS 7.5, (I have an ancient bootable Performa install CD) then upgraded to 5.3 then 5.5, then went to install Appleshare 3.0 preparatory to upgrading to 3.0.3 and...DANG! I cannot find my backup copies of the Appleshare 3 floppies I had. DOES ANYONE have the install set for the old Appleshare 3.0? I have 2.0 but alas at present no SE I could put it on....and, I would really rather have the capabilities of 3.0 -Bart Keeper of the Network from Heck I can be reached as pilgrimer at Sheppy's service, hotmail, or gmail or heck just google "pilgrimer" and you'll find me dot com "pilgrimer" wrote in message news:LKVLc.70$Xt6.21041@news.uswest.net... > My old Performa 405 stopped working dang it! I have a Quadra 610 running 7.1 on my network as a "bridge" for the GS connected to the Quadra via Appletalk. Here's what I have: Windows Server 2003 running Services for Macintosh UAM volumn set up on the server that the Mac can see (this is all the mac can see) The GS can see the Mac's hard drive just fine, but it can't see past the mac. I created an Alias on the Mac's drive that when you double-click on it, it opens up the UAM folder on the Server, but the GS can't see this Alias. So...what I have to do to transfer files is: 1. copy any files I need to the UAM folder on the Server 2. Go to the mac and copy the files to the local hard drive 3. Then go to the GS and copy the files down from the mac. I know there's got to be a way to see the Server directly from the GS, but I've yet to figure it out. My setup was easy, albeit the PC couldn't see the GS, it could see the Mac, and the Mac couldn't see the GS, it could see the PC, the GS could see both the PC and Mac. Quite the quandary, but still it was a solid set up. what I did was run the serial line from the printer port of the GS, running AppleTalk to the Printer port of the Mac, running AppleTalk. Next I ran an ethernet line from the Mac to my router and installed the Localtalk bridge on the Mac and PC-MacLan on the PC. Now everyone could talk to each other as described above. Not pretty, but the GS could access anything on the PC and on the Mac. I could download on the PC, then go to the GS and transfer it over, or send it straight to the Mac. BTW, this was a PowerMac 7100. This same setup also worked with the LC. I hope my ramblings made some sense. :o) Bill @ GarberStreet Enterprizez };-) Web Site - http://garberstreet.netfirms.com Email - willy46pa @ comcast DOT net Change DOT to a dot to contact me --- This email ain't infected, dude! Apple has only posted the 3.0.3 upgrade. the 3.0 software is lost for all time unless a kind person is out there. The full 3.0 set consists of 4 disks: 1 Appleshare install 2. the Fileserver 3 the Printserver 4 The Workstation disk. the 1st loads the actual version of the software, the 2nd and 3rd are pretty self explainitory. the 4th has the specific fles needed to work in combination with either the Appleshare Chooser in ProDOS (on a IIe) or the GS File Share for accessing a 3.0 server and (drum roll and refrence to an earlier thread): Server boot! I do not do server boot from a GS but my Workstation card equipped Platinum IIe that also has a TW II card, a AE Ramworks 1gb memory card (with the EGA daughtercard, a Liron 3.5 card and a Vulcan Black powersupply +card oh and SSC for ADT and repainted leads for the extra power draw (yeah, tis loaded! :) DOES server boot. or did... I also ran LT bridge and a similar setup to what others describe. -Bart Keeper of the Network from Heck
