Be sure you get the M144EW model with revision 1.30 or 1.31 ROMs. The earlier model (M1440E) has problems and some vendors are pushing them to cash in on that Byte review, according to some posts I read on comp.dcom.modems. The modem works great for me right out of the box using ProTERM 3.1's Boca driver. The only things I had to do were to buy a hardware handshaking cable to fit the GS (I use a $6 Mac+ high-speed modem cable from Computer City) and tack an "&D0" onto the end of the default init string. I got the AOL software to work with it too after fiddling with the control panel settings. -- Steve Reeves reevess@cse.fau.edu
