I suggest use AT \n3 which > sets your modem to autoreliable - that should set up for v42.bis if it's > available at the other end On my modem, AT&T Paradyne DataPort, AT\N3 is MNP Autoreliable, If you want error correction/detection and MNP one should use \N2 which is MNP Reliable i.e., you get it or the modem disconnects. \N4 is v.42 Reliable, and \N5 is v.42/Buffer i.e., Autoreliable \N6 is v.42/MNP Reliable and \N7 is v.42/MNP/Buffer Autoreliable. Reliable means you won't settle for anything except an error detection connection (say that three times real fast). IMHO Reliable is almost a must at higher modem speeds. Autoreliable means that if you can't get a mode that detects errors you will settle for no error detection (Buffer).
