     Did a little checking using our version of TGE (v3.6).  It looks like
TGE has some very specific ideas about where it wants to put stuff. If any of
these areas is detected as not available, you will get an error.

     Our TGE disk was converted to boot System 5.0.4 and start a simple
selector. (This allowed adding some GS applications to the disk which can be
delected.)  However, it looks like the original TGE disk booted ProDOS-8.

     According to the manual, if you stick in the diskette and power ON your
IIgs, TGE is supposed to boot and display the startup screen within 15
seconds. So, it must boot ProDOS-8.

     As far as I can tell, TGE will usually not start correctly when plain
ProDOS-8 is booted unless you do a cold boot. For example, booting GS System
6.0.1 and, then, getting to the BASIC prompt (e.g. by running BASIC.SYSTEM)
and doing a PR#5 will probably not work.

     GS System 6.0.1 sets things up and marks off space which TGE wants to
use-- such as RAM5 RAM disk space, possibly Cache space, etc.. Evidently, a
PR#5 boot does not get rid of enough of the GS System environment.

     Our Sys 5.0.4 TGE disk boots okay via a PR#5 from Sys 6.0.1 and lets you
start TGE-- probably because it substitutes a fairly bare bones 5.0.4
environment.

     Anyway, most real IIgs or Bernie setups are likely to start by booting a
fairly busy environment. So, with the standard ProDOS-8 TGE disk, you will
probably need to boot from power-up or via an OpenApple-Control-Reset (e.g.
with boot Slot set to 5) in order to get a clean enough environment to run
TGE.

     So, try doing a 'cold boot'.

     BTW, it looks like TGE starts up fine under ProDOS-8 v2.0.3 (again, via
a cold boot).  The later version of ProDOS could help a lot if you have more
than just a few volumes on-line.
