More details about exactly when it crashes would be helpful. There are a lot of "first screens." Do you mean the Main Menu? You want the Slinky (seg.XM), not the Ramworks (Aux - seg.AM). There is no 'configuration' for one or the other of the memory managers. It happens automatically. Or it should, as long as the correct memory manager (in this case, seg.XM) is present on the disk. If the memory manager for the Slinky memory (a file called seg.XM) were absent from the disk, it would simply say "unable to load SEG.XM." It wouldn't crash. Catalog the disk and see if the file named seg.XM is there. There should be seg.AM (Aux cards), seg.XM (slinky), and seg.RM (IIGS).
