Can Spectrum and/or >ANSITERM display characters in color? ANSITerm has been credited with being the best colour ANSI terminal emulator for the IIgs. I believe it runs under ProDOS 8 still so it is similar to ProTERM but requires a IIgs for the Super Hi-Res display mode. Spectrum is a GS/OS desktop application that does decent colour ANSI emulation and does perfect ANSI emulation if you have a Second Sight VGA card in your IIgs. Spectrum can be set to use either the GS/OS desktop, the SHR screen (for colour ANSI) or to the text screen (for standard text, ProTERM Special Emulation and VT100). Being a GS/OS based application it can upload files from any type of disk that you have an FST installed for (DOS 3.3, ProDOS, MS-DOS or HFS) and can download files to either ProDOS or HFS disks. It also supports TCP/IP connections using Marinetti. It also has the most powerful scripting language of the three programs mentioned which is what allows it to also be used as an off line reader for Syndicomm (SOAR), an e-mail client (SAM), an FTP client (SAFE) and as a web browser (SIS). I have ProTERM and I've tried ANSITerm but ever since I got Spectrum v1.0 it has been my communications program of choice for the IIgs. However, if I'm transferring a large amount of data over a null-modem connection between my PC and my IIgs, I will sometimes use ProTERM as it transfers the data a bit quicker as it has less operating system overhead.
