How to link Apple IIgs to Windows 2000 1) Buy an older Mac or Performa with a 68k processor. I have a Performa 575 all in one Mac. 2) Buy an ethernet adapter for the Mac. 3) Get Localtalk Bridge software from Apples FTP site. 4) Install Localtalk Bridge software. 5) Get either Dave for the Mac (requires system 7.6) or PC MacLAN for the Windows 2000 box or upgrade Win2k to Server and load up "services for macintosh" 6) Connect Mac to PC network. 7) Load ethernet adapter software for Mac 10baseT card. 8) Setup Win2k machine as an Appletalk server. 9) Set Mac Network control panel to Ethertalk and reboot. This will allow Localtalk bridge to load. 10) Connect IIgs to Mac via either a localtalk/phonenet network adapter or a Mac mini-8 din cable. Plug it into the printer port on both the Mac and IIgs. 11) Load up Appletalk drivers onto your IIgs. Hopefully you have a hard drive which makes this easier since it is rather tight on a floppy. 12) Depending upon ROM version of IIgs you set up in the control panel the IIgs to Appletalk. On a ROM 1, you will set slot 7 to appletalk and Slot 1 to my card. On a ROM 3, you set printer port to Appletalk ie slot 1. 13) Bootup all machines. 14) On PC, setup Appletalk server and users/passwords. 15) On Mac, setup Appletalk server with user/passwords. 16) On GS/OS, in the control panels, open Appletalk control panel. 17) Select what server from the control panel that you want to log on to. Click okay. Give username/password. Select volume to connect to and GS/OS should display a new drive icon for the remote drive. You can now drag and drop files from the PC or Mac to your IIgs. -- -- William R. Strutts - wrstrutts1@nospam.home.com - Whatever! C'est moi! http://www.facelink.com/wrstrutts Just hacking away...
