The connections for the III and IIgs are the same for all the important pins, but you'll have an analogue output trying to drive a digital input, it will probably look "funny", at best it will only give you eight colours. > Furthermore, after digging through my box of Apple // cards, I found a > Taxan RGB video card designed for the //e Aux slot (made by Video-7). > This card has a flat ribbon cable with a 15-pin male connector on it. > I assume this is a digital RGB card but how can I connect this card to > either Taxan monitor if the Taxan cable also has a 15-pin male > connector on one end as well ? Use an adapter ? I originally used the monitor with a Taxan-Kaga RGB IIB card in a IIe, this is an analogue RGB card though. > What type of cable is needed for position "II" with the Taxan monitor > (This position is labeled Apple ][ and features a square plug with 8 > pin sockets). I never got the cable that connects the card to the back panel, or the cable from there to the monitor, so I wired my own cables up to match the IIgs monitor standard. When I got my IIgs I just plugged it in and it worked. > Lastly, is there any composite connector on the Taxan > RGB Monitor - I can't seem to find one. No, it's RGB only. > Any help appreciated. I came across a PDF of the manual for the card and/or monitor just two weeks ago, unfortunately my web browser was only set to record the last 50 sites in the history (I've changed it to 30 days now) and searching the internet I can't find it again! It was on a site with quite a few PDFs of Apple II peripheral manuals. From the three photocopied pages I have: mode I, digital RGB (IBM PC CGA type, RGBI), 8-pin DIN 1=not used, 2=red, 3=green, 4=blue, 5=intensity, 6=ground, 7=horizontal sync, 8=vertical sync mode II, analogue RGB (use for RGB IIB card or IIgs), 8-pin rectangular 1=not used, 2=red, 3=green, 4=blue, 5=ground, 6=ground, 7=horizontal/composite sync, 8=vertical sync mode III, digital RGB (Apple III style, XRGB), 8-pin DIN 1=not used, 2=XRGB4, 3=XRGB2, 4=XRGB1, 5=XRGB8, 6=ground, 7=horizontal/composite sync, 8=vertical sync One more thing: when I first used the monitor with my IIgs the colours weren't quite right. I finally realised the IIgs was producing too high a level and was overdriving the monitor's RGB inputs. This was easy to see with a 16-shade gray gradient created with a paint program, the last 5 or so shades were all full white. A 390-ohm resistor in series in each RGB line fixed that. If you want to make up your own cable for a IIgs I can check mine and post the full details here. -- Roger Johnstone, Invercargill, New Zealand Apple II - FutureCop:LAPD - iMac Game Wizard http://homepage.mac.com/rojaws ________________________________________________________________________ Marketer to coder: "You start coding.
