The IIc+ has exactly the same serial hardware as the IIc (6551 ACIA for each port). The Mini Din 8 connector is compatible with the IIgs/Mac port, apart from the following: - The IIc+ is genuine RS-232, while the IIgs/Mac are RS-422/423. - As a result of this, the TxD+ and RxD+ pins (6 and 8) are unused on the IIc+. Pin 6 (TxD+) is connected to ground, to allow the IIc+ to connect to a Mac, IIgs, ImageWriter II, etc. with a standard cable. - The IIc+ doesn't implement the GPI signal (pin 7), which is DCD on the IIgs. - The IIc+ doesn't support the use of an external clock on Handshake In (pin 2). - The IIc+ handshake functions are hard-wired as on the IIc (RTS and DCD pins on the ACIA, with automatic control over the transmitter and receiver). Software has full control over the behaviour of the handshake signals on the IIgs and Mac. -- David Empson dempson@actrix.gen.nz
