The Applied Engineering GS-RAM uses the same RAM chips as the Apple card, but it maxes out at 1.5 MB, so you won't be much better off. The AE GS-RAM Plus is a better card, as it uses 1M chips, and supports up to 6 MB in total. Both cards violate the "four row" limit I described earlier, and some variants are not compatible with DMA. They may also need a PAL (programmed array logic) chip change if moved between a ROM 00/01 and ROM 3 IIgs. Other IIgs memory expansion cards which are designed to match the motherboard (limited to four rows) are fully compatible with both the ROM 00/01 and ROM 3 motherboards. -- David Empson dempson@actrix.gen.nz
