You could probably get hold of an old 68K Mac for a song (if not free) which has both Ethernet and a serial port. Run LocalTalk Bridge on it. In theory, this will avoid the need to restart into Mac OS 9 on the server machine. (A similar option would be to buy an Ethernet to LocalTalk converter box, but you would need one that did more than just support a printer.) Unfortunately, I suspect there are other issues with compatibility between the AppleShare server in Mac OS X and the Apple II AppleShare client, e.g. the server won't support storing ProDOS file names. -- David Empson dempson@actrix.gen.nz
