It depends on the hardware support provided by the Zilog Z8530 SCC chip to implement the bit-synchronous HDLC framing, and is very timing critical. A USB-Serial adaptor wouldn't be able to handle it without corresponding serial hardware and implementing the low level parts of the AppleTalk stack (at least the LLAP driver) in the peripheral. -- David Empson dempson@actrix.gen.nz
