[Jaunt!s Logo Gif] Hypercard IIGS Tools Hypercard Animation Animation in Hypercard has always been slow and difficult, and only usable in 640 mode (only 4 true colors) on the IIGS. That is until the Animate xcmd came along. Cr eate a Paintworks animation in Paintworks, Platinum Paint, DreamGraphix, or Cheap Pain t, and refer to the file from a Hypercard script like this: animate "filename",5 . The filename must be in quotes, and after the comma, a number between 0 and 9 for number of loops. Actually, 0 translates to 255 loops, which is effectively continous. Instantly, the animation file will be displayed on screen. Included with this file is a demo, install stack, and documentation. Animate animation utility (16k) More Colors, Scotty!! Hypercard on the IIGS is certainly more colorful than the Mac version, but th ere is certainly a need for MUCH MORE! The Loadpall xcmd for Hypercard IIGS allows you to easily switch to 320 mode, 256 colors, and still use the mouse and interact with the s tack without interruption. It is even possible to use a split resolution of 640 mode for some of the scanlines, (usually to display text in a field legibly) and 320 mod e for others. Create your own adventure games, use eye-catching pallette effects, and generally embarass Hyperstudio users! Loadpall Pallette switcher(80k) The Man Without an Interface Well, after writing the color and animation xcmds, you might assume I have no interface to my programs. Not True! My latest project is Quarknet, an offline m essaging system for genie. It interacts with the Spectrum or Proterm scripts to automate your Genie access. It does not interfere with Copilot, just gives you access and enh anced features while in Hypercard. Some features include: Handles message files 2.5 megs in length. You can access up to 22 roudtables. 50 archive names in the menubar you can append messages to. 255 character Internet addresses. Automatic extraction from mail of the return address. Automatic extraction of nickname in the message areas. Automatic paste-as-reply of selected text in mail or message areas. >> is used. Built-in screen blank feature. Checkboxes for Check New Files, Get Billing, Get Genielamp A2 and A2Pro. Scan message files anywhere on your HD. Saves a mark in the file by offset, not search for text. Fast, even in a 2.5 meg file! Automatically saves your mark in a file when you switch to another or quit. View archive files just as easily! Switch QUICKLY to any other stack, and return just as quickly! Two viewing modes for ease of use. Keyboard control of most functions, including message window scrolling! Configurable "Auto" button moves ahead through mail or messages when cursor is over it. Binary search feature scans each message for MULTIPLE text strings, automatically! Even if you don't have Genie, Quarknet is an amazing example of reading, writ ing, opening files; Use of the menubar Xcmds; manipulating, finding, and extracting text; and handling errors in Hypercard. It can and will be enhanced to handle other o nline services as the opportunity arises, making full use of Hypercard's ease of scri pting. Email me with any suggestions or features you want to see! Quarknet Offline Message Processor for Genie(180k) IIGS System Level Tools It has always struck me that the IIGS had no reliable reminder system. Some D esk Accessories interrupted the system CONTINUOUSLY, and could only provide an aler t minutes before an appointment, etc. Others would only remind you if you thought to access them. So as a simple experiment, I took a Desk Acessory called Dates 1.1 , and wrote a tiny init that would open it when the system had finished booting. After which, the Init deactivates any interrupts, effectively dissappearing from memo ry! To install, merely count the offset into the menu for your DA's that the one you w ant to run resides in, such as say the 15th DA down in the list, and copy the appropri ate numbered AutoDA Init into the system.setup folder. You will receive a reminder by the DA at the time you need it, before you spend all evening playing with Hypercard !
