CODA Music Software, 1401 East 79th St, Minneapolis, MN 55425, 612/854-9554 also makes several music programs: Fundamentals - $49.00 Rhythm - $49.00 Ear Training - $49.00 Music Symbols - $39.00 Note Reading - $39 These programs can utilize the ALF music card or compatibles for enhanced sounds. These programs have been especially designed for the classroom environment and designed for the whole Apple II line of computers. Weekly Reader Software, 10 Station Place, Norfolk, CT 06058, 203/542-5553, makes the Stickybear series. Of the music programs: Stickybear Music - $49.95 Stickybear Music Library 1 - $49.95 These run on 48k Apple II's and quite easy to use. Meant for children aged 7 and up, the programs allows monophonic music entry in standard notation thru a graphics interface with an on-screen piano keyboard. You can save, edit, print and playback your songs. The Library disk provides 39 additional songs. Great Wave Software, 5353 Scotts Valley Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066, 408/438-1990. These KidTime programs are similar to the Stickybear series and are for preschoolers to introduce them to music. KidTimes II is for the GS and features KidNotes, an introductory music program with on-screen keyboard, notation area. When played thru the Ensoniq chip, each note is highlighted on the screen keyboard as well as on the score. There are several other programs of the KidTime series. KidTime II (v2.0) - $39.95 AABACA makes several music programs that work with their Barney Whistle's Music Games program. It is for the Apple IIGS and requires 512k in ProDOS-8. Not copy protected. Retails for $39.95. This Music Games program is designed for younger children and a third grade reading ability is required. As I said there are several add-ons to this program and each sell for $39.95. AABACA also makes a $39.95 program called The Well-Tempered Ear - which is an ear training program. Another program program called Understanding Music ($39.95) helps develop the cognitive concepts necessary to understand and deal with fine music. Advanced Software, 18520 Vincennes #31, Northridge, CA 91324, 805/242-1247 makes a program called Sound, Song & Vision for the singer in mind. This program sells for $95.00 and will run on a 48k Apple and converts voice input to MIDI date which can trigger your synthesizer - sing to your synth and it sings back!. Lynx Computer Products, 15115 Ramona Blvd., Baldwin Park, CA 91706, 818/960-4839 or 800/824-3522 makes a program called Supermusic which adds six music commands to Applesoft Basic. Designed for a 512k IIGS, ProDOS-8 and not copy protected. Supermusic - $39.95 So What Software, 10221 Slater Ave., Ste 103, Fountain Valley, CA 92708, 714-964-4298 or 800/648-9621 (orders only), makes Sonix ($60.00). A music interface for Basic programs, not copy protected. A 1MB GS is required as well as 2 3.5" disk drives. Music Systems for Learning, 311 East 38th Stl, Ste 20C, New York, NY 10016, 212/661-6096 (note new address) makes a program called MusicShapes ($130) and not copy protected. (a demo is in our library). It is MIDI compatible and uses the Ensoniq sound chip and requires a 512k IIGS. It is a program that involves a user in the process of music making and idea development. They call it a creative learning environment. MECC makes a program called MusicTheory (2.2) which offers 18 applications you can configure from simple to difficult and sells for $59. Britannica Software, 345 Fourth St., San Francisco, CA 94107, 415/546-1866 makes a program called The Notable Phantom ($9.95), a program for 5 - 10 year olds that turns music theory into an arcade game, complete with zapped spiders and ghosts. Runs on all the Apple II computers, even the II+. Baudville, 1001 Medical Park Dr., SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506, 616/698-0888 makes a program called Guitar Wizard ($29.95). Guitar Wizard is a computerized scale and chord guide for the Apple II's that analyzes fingerings and chord patterns. If you want a chord book close by, you can dump screens to a printer. DiversiTune (v1.1) $75 from Diversified Software Research and its many song disks. Being upgraded. Not copy protected. Supports MIDI. Diversi-Tune: Recorder, synthesizer and playback program for GS. It turns the IIGS into a MIDI synthesizer and recorder and plays 32 channels simultaneously. 512k. Diversified Software Research, Inc. 34880 Bunker Hill Farmington, MI 48331 313/553-9460 Music Studio (v2.01) by Activision/Mediagenic, 3885 Bohannon Dr., Menlo Park, CA 94025, 415/329-0800 - not being upgraded, but will work with GSOS 5.02. $99.95. Electronic Arts, 1820 Gateway Drive, San Mateo, CA 94404, 415/571-7171, makes several music programs, Instant Music ($19.95); Instant Synthesizer ($79.95) and Music Construction Set ($19.95). None support MIDI, however MCS does support MIDI Out only. Broderbund recently released a program called Jam Session ($49.95) for the GS. Like Instant Music and Instant Synthesizer, these programs are basically a play along. However, the Instant series are more educational than Jam Session. Passport Designs, 625 Miramontes St., Half Moon Bay, CA 94019 has two excellent MIDI programs, MasterTrack Pro ($395) and MasterTracks Jr ($149.95). These programs are like having a personal MIDI recording studio that provides tools for composing, recording and editing music via a graphic interface. The Pro version also has a sequencing program. SysExGS written by our very own LindsayGS (Lindsay Hough), P.O. Box 212, Slingerlands, NY 12159. $34.95 (or $5.95 for demo, OR download the demo from AMS). SysExGS allows users to save, store, load and retransmit information from their MIDI equipment. This is a MIDI program. MusicWriter (v2.0 soon to be released) from Pygraphics, Pygraphics Corp., P.O. Box 639, Grapevine, TX 76051, 817/481-7536 or 800/222-7536. This is a superb compositional program for theory and notation. MIDI is now supported in version 2.0. HyperStudio encompasses both sounds and graphics in the media known as Hyper-card environment. Roger has added several programs in conjunction with Hyperstudio: X-Commands ($49.95); Clip-Sounds ($24.95) and more are in the making.
