Mike, what is new in the music area that Triad has to offer? Nuzz Well... WE have SoundConvert, SoundREM, and an update to Cliptunes AFL JoyceM What is the update to Cliptunes? Nuzz After Boston Expo, we'll be mailing update notices out for Cliptunes. New in Cliptunes is: All new HyperStudio 3.x style NBA for playing Midisynth. All point and click. You don't have to type a single character from the keyboard to play a sound (song). Redirection to midi device and or gs speakers. And our "Simple-Song" song creator. AFL JoyceM That is GOOD news...point and click (I like simple activities). Nuzz You can key in a song right from creating your button, without leaving HyperStudio! AFL JoyceM Redirection to MIDI device or GS speakers - please explain Nuzz There are three options for output: 1. GS speaker 2. Midi device (keyboard) 3. Both midi device and GS speaker AFL JoyceM Ah...I understand AFC Eddie That sounds terrific, Mike! AFL JoyceM I also like the idea of the Simple Song Nuzz We had many requests for creating songs Nuzz There is also the standard version of the NBA also, so as not to take up more memory when the user doesn't have Midi AFC Eddie Some time ago you there was some talk of an upgrade for SoundConvert. Is that still in the works? Nuzz WE did upgrade from v 1.0 to v 1.2. And I'm looking to do another one too AFC Eddie Great! Nuzz SoundREM will probably be updated first though AFA Andy It's a great sound utility! AFL JoyceM SoundREM, what does that do? Nuzz SoundREM is a native editor for "Foundation", which is the latest and best GS resource editor. SoundREM, edits (cut/copy paste rSounds, and also digitizes, imports much like SoundConvert. The biggest difference is that SoundREM lets you edit via wave form and you can have multiple wave forms on the screen at the same time AFL JoyceM I presume you have to have Foundation to use SoundREM? Nuzz Yes, thats correct Joyce. Lunar Productions also sells SoundREM, so you can one-stop shop if you like ELECTMUSIC Mike... what would the average GS user do with "Foundations"? AFC DYAJim The average user will be able to customize their applications, similar to Genesys. So if you want to edit a keyboard equivalent of a program, or change the spelling of a menu/menu item, or something simular, you can. Nuzz Foundation will have editors for Icons, cursors, sounds, etc. Anyone who wants to take advatage of system 6.0 Icon handling should use Foundation. The Icon editor alone will be worth the price AFL JoyceM How about the costs of Foundation? and SoundREM? Nuzz We're selling Foundation for $20, and we will have an offer for SoundConvert owners - $15, I believe, including shipping. AFA Andy That's a great price! AFL JoyceM Would I use Foundation, Mike? Nuzz Like I said Joyce, Foundation will be one of the only things to use on rIcons, bundles, etc AFL JoyceM But I am not a programmer, would I have to be? Nuzz And, as Jim mentioned, if you're brave enough you can tweak any menu, wording, etc in any program that uses resources. You don't have to know anything about programming to use Foundation, or SoundREM (for the items I mentioned). As far as SoundREM, it makes coping sounds between files easy, and is probably the only thing available to support the clipboard for sounds (besides the Sound Control Panel). AFL JoyceM Hmmm....another program to add to my Wish List :) AFA Andy I know what you mean, Joyce. :) AFL JoyceM Can you explain a little more that your SoundConvert does, Mike? Nuzz And there are some things in the works that might make importing and copying sounds lots easier. SoundConvert is set in a HyperCard stack, and it was designed for HyperCard users to digitize and import sounds into stacks. Of course, you can also spin off a syetem 6 sound file, or export a sound to say HyperStudio James S WI Can the sound REM do everything sound convert does? Nuzz Two bladed answer here...Almost. SoundConvert has one more import feature (MidiSynth) and is copy-able from stack to stack. SoundConvert also has the Digitize NDA so you can digitize from anywhere. Second part... It does more, in that SoundREM edits sounds, where SoundConvert doesn't, and in keeping with the HyperCard users expertize, I expect SoundREM will have more features that might not interest the stack designer. AFL JoyceM those being? Nuzz More intense editing, and files imports like ASIF-C, etc. I'm talking next versions here. SoundREM doesn't import ASIF in the currebnt version and maybe IBM Soundblaster format AFL JoyceM So, to be up-to-date, one needs both SoundConvert (Triad) and SoundREM (Lunar)? Nuzz SoundREM is from Triad also. Lunar is one of our outlets for it though. Depends Joyce. If you use Foundation and not HyperCard, then you'd need only SoundREM. Depends on where you'd like to work :) AFL JoyceM Hmmm....since I already have HyperCard, then I think I should stick with SoundConvert (which I already own) :) Nuzz To be honest, I tend to work with SoundREM more because it doesn't have the memory overhead of HyperCard AFL JoyceM Good point. My problem is getting too many programs and not enough time or mind power to remember how to use them all :) Nuzz well, SoundREM is easy to use. If you've used a sound editor, you know how to use it. AFL JoyceM SoundConvert is easy to use too ELECTMUSIC Joyce... can I give a plug for ClipTunes :) AFL JoyceM Sure can, Greg ELECTMUSIC Anyone interested in hearing and seeing how the NBA works should...download my stack called "Mozart Stack" AFL JoyceM Excellent stack, BTW. ELECTMUSIC It demos several features 1) integrating midisynth into a stack 2) educational uses of the NBA 3) sample menus from the NBA ELECTMUSIC Thanks Joyce AFL JoyceM Yep...Greg, who did the stack? ELECTMUSIC I did. Basically I acted as a producer AFL JoyceM Fantastic job...well worth the download and very educational too ELECTMUSIC We used some of our talented students from school to produce the music Nuzz nice stack Greg AFL JoyceM Speaking of ClipTunes, Triad also has that available, right Mike? Nuzz Yes, ClipTunes is available with the new NBA's. AFL JoyceM Oh, an update? Nuzz Joyce, all new Cliptunes packages has the new NBA's. Updates for existing owners will go out after Boston Expo. If I remember right, the update will be around $10. AFL JoyceM I can expect my notice after the Boston Expo - which is when, Mike? Nuzz Boston Expo is Oct 2-4. Triad will be there. I don't remember the booth number off-hand. ELECTMUSIC Thanks Mike for the info tonight. Nuzz Boston should be an interesting show. AFC Eddie Mike, thanks so much for doing such a great job! Nuzz My pleasure AFL JoyceM Mike, thank you for coming tonight - at least I now better understand about SoundREM! Nuzz Then it was all worth it :) AFL JoyceM Log off----------------
