=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- APPLE II MUSIC & SOUND FORUM CONFERENCE LOG June 3, 1992 10 PM ET Topic: New "Zap" Software! Forum Leader: Joyce Madden (AFL JoyceM), Forum Assistant: Gene Koh (AFA Gene) Forum Consultants: Greg Dib (ELECTMUSIC), Ed Rosenblatt (AFC Eddie), Lindsay Hough (LindsayGS) Copyright (c) 1992 America Online All Rights Reserved =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- IRSMan Just uploaded MODZap 0.70... AFC Eddie Great, I'll release it tonite! IRSMan (9 new effects, 4 sound quality settings, insane stuff like that) AFL JoyceM Not to appear ignorant, what does MODZap do? IRSMan I'll upload MODifier 2.1 later for those who still do soundsmith remixes of MODs. AFC Eddie Whatever happened to that other program you were working on, with MIDI? IRSMan Eddie: Its still being worked on. AFC Eddie Thanks! Look forward to it! IRSMan Joyce: MODZap plays Amiga MOD files (like NoiseTracker) only it sounds better and has lots more effects (vibrato, sustain, etc, etc) AFC Eddie Ian, any plans for a new version of AudioZap? AFL JoyceM Oh, good...NoiseTracker doesn't work with my system now. IRSMan AudioZap 2.0 is nearing beta 1 :) I have the Extras working now AFC Eddie Great! IRSMan (you can write external commands like Finder Extras for AudioZap 2.0) AFC Eddie WOW! IRSMan So that way someone can do things like Fade and Echo which I don't know how to :-) AFL JoyceM Just got Sys 6 installed yesterday :) sure wish I had the manual! Eddie, do you have SL installed on you harddrive in Hard 1 or hard2? AFC Eddie Yes, in HD2. Works fine. AFL JoyceM Good, that is where I had the 'other' version...will move it then...thanks. AFC Eddie Now experimenting with MIDI recording directly into SLab. Much smoother with the newer version. AFL JoyceM I haven't even tried the new version yet... AFC Eddie Most of the differences are pretty subtle. But recording is a bit easier. AFL JoyceM I gathered that. Isn't there a beta new version of SysEX, Eddie? AFC Eddie Yes, there is Joyce. And it'a a major improvement. AFL JoyceM What changes did Lindsay make? AFA Andy What is SysEx? AFC Eddie The biggest of several changes is that it now will import MidiEx format files. AFL JoyceM MIDI Ex files -\ what are those? AFC Eddie MidiEx is a universal standard file type for Synth patches and sysex info. AFC Eddie So, I can download sound patches for my Proteus, for example from Mac, PC and even Amiga areas and use the GS to load them into my Proteus sound module! IRSMan Coolish AFL JoyceM Would those patches also work for a Roland? AFC Eddie You'd need Roland patches uploaded in MidiEx format. I've used some. IRSMan No, but you could get Roland patches from Mac/Amiga/PC and use them :) ELECTMUSIC MidiEx patches for the Roland should work, Joyce AFC Eddie They do. AFC Eddie There are some for your D5, Joyce. AFL JoyceM Great...when does Lindsay plan to release this new version? AFC Eddie Check the Mac and PC areas right here on AOL! ELECTMUSIC Eddie, what about re-uploading some of the patches to our forum? IRSMan Anyone done any decent SS/SL/anything songs lately? AFC Eddie Not sure about a release date. Greg, that's not a bad idea. Import, then save as SysEx GS files! ELECTMUSIC right! AFC Eddie Those could be uploaded here too! AFL JoyceM (Lindsay is with his ailing mother for the next couple of weeks) AFC Eddie Ian, I haven't seen any new SS songs, tho there have been some good new ones for synthLAB. IRSMan Ahh, coolish...have to check. IRSMan I just did "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for SoundSmith, and I'm working on "The Unforgiven". They'll probably be on the next GS<>IRC disk :) AFC Eddie Yes, try LaBamba or Bohemian Rhapsody. AFC Eddie Ah, a new disk? GNO Tim2 bug dave for the demo first! IRSMan Yeah...there's a demo to get done now, a new jukebox next. IRSMan Tim: heh, Dave's not got it done yet? GNO Tim2 I haven't heard. I'm not on IRC much...it's long distance now for me. IRSMan Tim: Dave is supposed to send me the LZSS packer (forget to grab it b4 summer) and he hasn't done it yet...James called me voice and I told him to bug Dave IRSMan I heard Bohemian for synthLAB...needs better instrumentation :) The Capriccio song that comes with the new synthLAB is AWESOME tho. AFC Eddie Agreed, Ian, but a nice performance nonetheless! IRSMan sounds like a symphony orchestra in my GS :) GNO Tim2 Ian! I found NewWorldman and the Trees in mod format.. :) IRSMan Tim! where? and are they King Lerch-ish? ;-) GNO Tim2 do a search for mod in the Mac area on AOL...LimeLight is also there too, but I haven't dl'd it yet. Gshk will un-stuffit them ELECTMUSIC synthLAB really highlights the potential of midi on the GS... too bad more development hasn't been done with it IRSMan I'm working on Tom Sawyer for SoundSmith...its turning out awesome :) AFC Eddie I agree, Greg. MIDISynth could be a powerful tool. IRSMan Well, if Apple would release MIDIsynth docs without having to pay for them some more of us might be more interested in it :) AFC Eddie C'mon, Ian, you must have them! :) IRSMan Eddie: no, I have all the 6.0 ERSes, but no midisynth :) Nuzz Aren't ther docs on the sys 6 MS disk GNO Tim2 I don't have em either.... IRSMan Nuzz: there's docs for synthLAB, but not MIDISynth itself. GNO Tim2 MidiSynth ERS was accidently left off the sys 6 CD :( AFC Eddie You should still be able to get them from APDA. Or is that Resource Central now? GNO Tim2 someone verified this with Tim S IRSMan Tim: will they be releasing the ERSes? GNO Tim2 don't know...he was quoted as saying "oops". I suppose I could have Jawaid ask for them, since he received the CD. IRSMan Too bad Dave Lyons never answered my mail about soundtool bugs :( AFC Eddie So,once you have them, then what? IRSMan Once I have them I can write stuff with/for/about MIDIsynth :) AFC Eddie Now you're talking! IRSMan In the meantime, anyone want a finder extra to play soundsmith songs? :) AFA Andy Yeah, that would be cool? :) Nuzz Hey, that sounds familiar :) IRSMan okay, I'll pop one together...my SS/MT player is highly modular :) AFC Eddie Sounds nice, Ian! IRSMan I already have a backgrounding shell player that needs some finishing touches for Orca/GNO). The new MODZap has a DOC slammer so it no longer whines about GNO, fyi. :) I found out BeyondMusic has some very nasty effects...had to rangecheck everything, but now more MODs should work okay :) GNO Tim2 hehe...beyond music and space debris are about the 2 most demanding mods I have and I think I got them playing almost perfectly ... finally.. IRSMan yeah, that and BassBins. I got BassBins mostly working right...my volume slide is out of whack tho :( GNO Tim2 bassbins too...mod.1992 does a lot also.. IRSMan the looping within a block works tho, was a pain :) IRSMan I think these Amigoids sit around inventing ways to annoy us :-) GNO Tim2 hehe...too true...I hear on GEnie they're now making a IFF module block...ick, GNO Tim2 yet another format IRSMan OKTA is basically in IFF format. GNO Tim2 I wish I had OKTA docs...I can read them and view them..but I'm unsure what some of the parameters are IRSMan Tim: yeah AFC Eddie Ian, what's the name of that program you were working on that supports MIDI? IRSMan Eddie: MegaTracker AFC Eddie Right! Looking forward to that one! IRSMan I'm having fun using it as a sound module, but I need to make it more functional. A lmost done with step recording, need realtime MIDI recording next :) AFC Eddie Now that's a program! IRSMan you can send it program changes to switch instruments, kinda coolish :) and it sends them out for playback...I wish I had a better keyboard for playing FUN.Musics out via MIDI ;-) ELECTMUSIC Ian ... will that be using the new miditool 35? AFC Eddie You can come over and borrow mine, Ian! IRSMan ELECT: noper, it chats with the MIDI driver directly for insane speed :) ELECTMUSIC gotcha! IRSMan And it uses a file format that's similar to soundsmith, but has more effects. MIDI Importing may be possible...I have about 200k of docs on the MIDI spec :) ELECTMUSIC In other words... it might be possible to import a Midi file into SndSmith? IRSMan yes AFC Eddie WOWOWOWOWOWOW! ELECTMUSIC Ahhhhh... GREAT! IRSMan with the current setup you can play midi from an external sequencer and have MT grab it :) I'm hoping to be able to parse actual midi files tho :) AFC Eddie Ian, sounds like a potentially very hot program! IRSMan Eddie: yes, once I get some kinks out :) Say, for my info, is anyone here interested in writing Extras for AudioZap 2.0? AFC Eddie AZ can use echo and stereo recording. That would make for some nice extras! IRSMan (that way I can release some info and samples so they're ready when AZ 2.0 is) ELECTMUSIC What will be updated in 2.0? IRSMan Nearly everything. AFC Eddie Well, the log of this chat will be posted, so if anyone's reading it and would like to write extras, please contact IRSMan! IRSMan for starters, nearly everything is now in resources for easy fixing/changing (also makes assembly a hellava lot faster :) There's a completely new playback driver and a new recording one too so you have meaningful record rates. You can use arrow keys to move selection point around. Some things are faster AFC Eddie Sounds good, Ian! How do we registered owners get a copy? IRSMan Eddie: you'll get it in email once its closer to done :) AFC Eddie Sounds like a lot of work has gone into it! IRSMan Yeah, there has been quite a bit :) redoing all the menus and stuff in Genesys was a bit of a pain, but it'll pay off later :) AZ 2.0 also grabs the system request so that the sound control panel will work okay even when its running :) (I can't live without my new Mac sysbeep :) AFC Eddie Who can? :) IRSMan heh, this is true :) well, I'm gonna split and check for those Rush MODs :) And someone write a new midisynth song or something :) later :) AFC Eddie Bye, Ian. Thanks! AFA Andy Can I ask a ModZap question? AFC Eddie Oh, you just missed Ian, the author! AFA Andy Yeah, he was busy :D AFC Eddie Oh. Well, we'll try :) AFA Andy I can't get it to load the NT 1.0 song. Is there a way to get it to do that? AFC Eddie Is that a MOD file? MODZap only loads MOD files. AFA Andy I see. AFA Andy I thought I saw that it would load NT files. AFC Eddie Hmmm, maybe, but I don't remember that. In any event, a new version of MODZap is about to be released. AFA Andy I see. Thanks :D AFC Eddie I'd say in about 10 minutes or so! AFA Andy Oh Great :D!!!!!!!!!!! AFA Gene BTW, NT songfiles wouldn't be enhanced if MODZap could play them because they don't include the special MOD effects that MODZap understands (and NT doesn't), which is probably why Ian didn't bother supporting NT files. AFC Eddie The new MODZap will recognize even more effects! AFC Eddie ------------------------------ LOG OFF -----------------------
