Hacker's Challenge By: Mark V. Whitehurst - 1987 This is the best disk image I have been able to make of this disk so far. Although no errors are reported during the copy, it boots with the word 'ouch!' instead of the normal introduction, but I'm not sure if it actually has a bad effect on the whole disk. Normally there is a little intro, but all it says is basically the following: "The Apple ][ was a joy for many hackers and just plain curious. This disk is a puzzle to challenge just those people. A prize is avalible to the first ten people who discover the hidden message and do what it says to claim their prize. The game starts at a DOS prompt. Good luck." I think the ouch may just be noticing that you aren't using the original the original disk (or have altered it from the original). When you start you will see 'ouch!' printed on the screen and then be dumped to the DOS prompt. type catalog and you will see..... 'cat meows on 16!' and that is it. Just to get you started, try putting Copy II+ into drive 2. Run Copy II+ and select [V]iew files, [T]ext, and you should see two files: B 001 H T 002 I H looks like the introduction that doesn't ever appear on this copy If you view I (the text file) it lists a few DOS 3.3 commands. If you type these in (all but the last one) and then type catalog, you will see a new list of files.....This is just the beginning.. ..Enjoy and Good luck. If you make progress it would be nice to upload your discoveries on a text file to ftp.apple.asimov.net to be placed in the directory with this image. I'll try to get a perfect image, but it may be difficult since the whole idea of this disk was to challenge the hacker sort.....grin.... P.S. I can't stress this enough...KEEP A BACKUP OF THIS DISK....It is very easy to trash this disk......Just try rebooting a few times with it in the drive.....and you may want to make it READ-ONLY when you are just playing.
