Time Zone: Multi-Drive version This version of Time Zone has been enhanced as follows: - The .NIB image files are now playable in any emulator which supports that format. (Some of the previously available image files generate read errors with any emulator other than AppleWin Beta 2 with Enhance Disk Speed enabled.) - Saved game disks can be ordinary blank .DSK images (or, on a real machine, any ordinary initialized disk). - And the big win: Multiple drives are supported to bypass the numerous disk swaps over the course of the game. Three configurations will be detected and used if available, in the following order: 14 drives: for emulators which allow you to put a Disk ][ card in all seven slots, such as Virtual ][ for Mac OS X. This setup eliminates all disk swaps. Start by booting Disk 1A from Slot 7, Drive 1. 12 drives: for emulators which allow you to put a Disk ][ card in all slots except 3, such as A2 Oasis for Windows. This setup requires a single swap for the save disk after the game starts. Start by booting Disk 1A from Slot 7, Drive 1. 2 drives: for any emulator. This setup eliminates save disk (but not game disk) swaps. Start by booting Disk 1A. You will be shown which disks go in which drives when the game starts. Notes: The original single-drive configuration (in which you are prompted to swap for your saved game disk) is not available. The saved game disk now requires a volume number of 254, so existing Time Zone saved game disks won't work; you may be able to copy one to a .DSK image file (or ordinary initialized disk) by using COPYA with line 250 deleted. The backup and initialize saved game disk functions have been removed, since neither are needed and they can now cause problems. (Even if played on an actual Apple II, the disks can be copied with COPYA, and the saved game disk can be initialized like any other.) Questions? Comments? Email ex_or@yahoo.com.
