Well, I wasn't going to release this quite yet, but since my GS died yesterday, I thought I'd release what I've got, since it may be some time before I can work on it again :( The file jpeg.v6.shk is a ShrinkIt archive of a port of the Independent JPEG Group's freeware JPEG compression/decompression software version 6. Note: this is not an image viewer. It will convert JPEG images into or from GIF, PPM/PGM, Targa, and BMP (both Windows & OS/2) images. jpeg.v6.shk also contains programs that will read/write comments in JPEG images, and a program to perform lossless transcoding between JPEG image formats (i.e. baseline to progressive). Djpeg works quite well, I think. It produced nice images from every JPEG image I tried it on. Cjpeg might have some problems. I was able to compress images, but they were slightly longer than they should have been. The images decompressed back into acceptable images, but had some extra pixels. The other 3 programs (jpegtran, rdjpgcom, wrjpgcom) were largely untested. I was able to run jpegtran a couple of times, and it appeared to work. I wasn't able to use the others, but they are not nearly as complex as the converters, so they should work. Requires: An Apple IIgs. GNO or ORCA shell. 2MB of memory (it will probably run with a little less, but it will then need LOTS of disk space) About xxxKB of disk space for the complete installation. Images to convert. Recommended: An accelerator (of course :) A hard drive. 4MB+ of memory. A Second Sight card to view your converted images with. Enjoy :) Mark Marr-Lyon o9938156@unicorn.it.wsu.edu
