Welcome to the ftp.cco.caltech.edu [131.215.48.49] Apple II Archive Site! Due to confusion as to the archive's current policy regarding uploaded files, I am creating this information file to outline the procedure followed with new uploads. When a file is placed in the /incoming directory, and I find it, I check it to make sure it unpacks. I also verify that it has no copyrighted material in it, and, assuming I have the proper hardware to use it, make sure the files within actually work. When I have verified that an archive actually works, I MOVE IT to the /NEW.FILES directory, and it is also aliased to its proper directory in the hierarchy (thus, a new graphics program, once verified, would exist in both /NEW.FILES and /graphics). After 1 month, the file is removed from /NEW.FILES, and thereafter only exists in its proper directory. I try to verify as much of the uploaded material as I can. The only reasons for deletion of any software uploaded are space considerations, illegality, and non-working archives. Non-working archives are the most common victims of deletion, and can be avoided by always uploading in BINARY mode. Damiel M. Zimmerman dmz@cco.caltech.edu 14 March 1995
