Below is an archive of three short programs which complement the series of Apple ][+ demos from Mark Kriegsman. All of them work regardless of the OS used. The first two were written be me. They show something like a scan line interrupt using a real dirty trick. Both of them can be exited with the ESC key. While the first one draws just a static image the second combines the mode switching with flicker free full screen animation. The problem remaining with the later is that its timing depends on the 50 Hz screen refresh rate used in Europe. I was unable to find timing constants suitable for 60 Hz so I include the source code (text files created with LISA 2.5G / DOS 3.3) for your own experiments. IIgs users can switch to 50 Hz quick & dirty with a POKE 49195,24 (don't call the CDA menu after that). The Alternate Display Mode is also *required* (Finally ! A real application for that beast ! ;-). BTW, the timing used for the page flipping in Mark's 80 col demo is just bad for 50 Hz. To make it useable with 50 Hz do the following under ProDOS BASIC: BLOAD IW0 POKE 32785,21:REM was 23 BSAVE IW0 The last program utilizes a similar technique as the 80 col demo to display two hires screens side by side, i.e. with 560 pixels per line: The KOMPRESSOR takes hires page 1 & 2 as input and shifts the even/odd pixels to page 1/2 while setting the color bit in page 2 (the color bit of the original hires images will of course get lost in this process). The FLIPPER shows the complete picture by rapidly switching between the two pages (same 50/60 Hz problem as above, but not so critical here).
