THE SET FILE INFO FUNCTION Access the SET FILE INFO function from the WORK menu. Use SET FILE INFO to change or get file attributes on ProDOS volumes. The source file name's attributes are changed to the attributes found in attribute rectangle. SET FILE INFO does not allow one to change the attributes of a volume, or to change the file type of a folder. Source files may be subject to filter tests and source wild card file name matching before passing to set file info. SET FILE INFO treats all source file types as a sapling file. Folder do not get expanded upon in order for one to access the folder attributes. To traverse a folder, use a source wild card file name. Follow these steps when performing a SET FILE INFO operation: (1). Determine if the correct filters are switched on for USE (if any). (2). Determine that used FILTERS are correctly set. (3). Determine that the OPTION switches are set to your satisfaction. (4). Determine if the source path is correctly made. (5). Select the GET FILE INFO button to set the current files attributes. (6). Modify the current file attributes as you would like. (7). Select the CHANGE button. (8). Use the CONTINUE button to get file info on the next passing source wild card file name. You may then choose to go back to step (5) or (6). INITIAL STATES FOR THE SOURCE PATH DESCRIPTOR: There are three initial states for both the source and the target paths. The source path may indicate: (1). a directory or a file, (2). a volume, (3). a wild card file name. Results of trying to CHANGE: (A). on a a directory or file: changes the attributes of the passing source file name; (B). on a volume: invalid; (C). on a wild card file name: invalid; Results of the GET FILE INFO button: (A). on a a directory or file: retrieves the attributes of the passing source file name; (B). on a volume: retrieves the attributes of the passing source file name; (C). on a wild card file name: seeks out a passing source file that matches the source wild card file name. BUTTON ACTIONS IN THE SET FILE INFO WINDOW There are seven buttons in the SET FILE INFO window: CHANGE, CONTINUE, NEXT VOLUME, NEXT DEVICE, CHOOSE PATH, CHOOSE TEMPLATE, and GET FILE INFO. See the documentation describing common controls. The CHANGE button will attempt to alter the source file name's attributes to the current attribute settings in the SFI window. The GET FILE INFO button updates the file attributes descriptions, within the rectangle, in the SET FILE INFO window. If a source wild card file name was used, then a search for a matching file will begin, and the CONTINUE button will be activated if more directory files can still traversed.
