THE BACKUP FUNCTION Access the BACKUP function from the WORK menu. Use BACKUP to duplicate files on ProDOS volumes. Files are copied from the source text edit path to the target text edit path. Source file attributes are reproduced in the target file. Source folder attributes are not reproduced for the target folder. Source files may be subject to filter tests, the earlier version test, and wild card matching before passing to the target path. BACKUP performs exactly like the COPY function, except for a few important details. First, BACKUP assumes that the target is a backup image of the source. Second, existing target files are automatically over-written. Thus there's no switch to prevent existing target file replacement. Third, BACKUP compares source and target file attributes to determine which files need to be a copied, only passing files if the source and target file attributes differ. See documentation on data transfer, filters, options, and common controls.
