Here is a brief description of the programs contained on the August 1992 Disk of the Month for the II GS. Some of the programs require System 6.0. Some of the programs are Shareware. Please keep our shareware authors working by sending in your fee if you like the program. Programs that have an asterick (*) before the name were featured in Joe Kohn's Shareware Solutions columns in the August and September issues of A+ Incider. This description file was created using GSX Edit by Mark Cinellli. * Quintette from the French team of Kwisartz and Ticks. Translated into English by Rick Gast and Andy Stein. This is really 2 games, kind of like GO. You may either play against the computer or with another person. The object of the game is to place 5 stones in a row. Very nice sounds, music, and animation. * XPurpose is a Shareware game from Bob Owens. If you have any Friendly's restaurants in your area and they have those peg games at the tables to frustrate you while you wait for service, food, whatever, then you already know how to play this game. You jump one piece over another into an empty space and removed the jumped piece. The object is to end up with only 1 piece left. I have done it, but I can't remember what I did to end up that way! True Type Samples update. To add to your collection of the True Type fonts available from the Productivity forum on America onLine, here are the fonts that were uploaded from 7/21/92 through 8/1/92. They are in APR format so you can easily see what they look like with any program that will display Apple Preferred Format screens. Ultra Blank from Robert S. Claney UltraBlank V2.00 is a screen blanker for the Apple //gs which will blank the screen while any program is running (including ProDOS 8 programs like AppleWorks!). It will blank ANY video mode which is available on the GS. Best of all, the current program will still be running when the screen is blanked, which means you can leave your programs to do something that takes a lot of time (like printing, etc.), and they will still be running when the screen is blanked! (Even when using the Bouncing Ball blanking type .) Be sure you read the documentation before using, for full details. ShareWare. Oow is an init from Mike Nuzzy "Oow the Init. Place in your system.setup folder. Oow will liven up the launching of files. Double click on an Icon and it crashes to the bottom of the screen with appropriate sound effects Something this stupid could only be freeware..:)" [author's words, not mine] rSounds for System 6.0. The folder contains 2 sounds; "I'd like a word with you" (as spoken by Shere Khan) from The Jungle Book from Walt Disney Studios and an "auuuga" sound of an old time car horn. Copy them into the sound folder in your System folder and use them for various events. * WriteIt is a shareware word processing desk accessory from Chris Haun. It is Shareware, with no set fee. [send in what you feel it's worth.] It is an NDA that takes only 15K of space so you can put it on 3.5" System Disks. Although it doesn't have "tons" of features, its size is a great advantage to those who do not own a hard drive. *GSXedit from Mark Cinelli is FREEWARE!!! It can load and save Text, Teach, and source files. Multiple windows can be open simultaneously so you can cut/copy/paste to your heart's content. * Big Edit Thing is an NDA from Jim Murphy. It is Shareware with a $10 fee [which is incredibly small considering what it does.] It has tabs, rulers, find & replace feature, left, right, & full justification, and automatic save. It can use fonts up to 72 pts. It will load and save ASCII text, source code, Teach and Appleworks documents. This is a winner! Remember the Time: Mod composition uploaded by Counse. This is a MOD version of Michael Jackson's song. Requires a MOD player program such as ModZap (included). MODZap 00.80 from Ian Schmidt Requires System 6.0, external speakers recommended, MOD files MODZap 00.80 is the latest upgrade. There are many functional and cosmetic changes from 0.77. Some highlights: there's an onscreen keyboard to play with the instruments. A lot of bugs have been fixed on so many MODs now sound much better and some that didn't work at all now work fine. Enjoy! IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!! This may only be due to the specific configurations of my GS system, BUT, I had to remove BET (Big Edit Thing) from my Desk Accessories folder in order to get any of my MOD players to work. SO....you may have to disable BET to listen to MOD songs (which is OK since they don't allow you access to NDAs anyway.)
