General Instructions for Using HyperCard IIGS When unshrinking Hypercard IIGS make sure that you place both the program and the 'Home' stacks in the same folder. The 'Reference' stack can be placed anywhere it will fit. HyperCard IIGS is memory hungry. If you are using many inits, desk accessories, or a RAM Disk, you may need to turn those things off to free up available RAM for Hypercard IIGS. HyperCard IIGS works best on a hard drive. It is possible to run Hypercard from a floppy, but it will be both slow and tedious. If you don't have a Hard Drive, please think seriously about purchasing one. 0. The software included with this collection requires System Software 5.0.4 or better. We recommend the current version, System Software 6.01. 1. Make a backup copy of all disks. 2. Read the file GSHK.DOCS. It tells you everything you need to know about running ShrinkIt-GS. 3. Use ShrinkIt-GS (GSHK) to unpack the files HCGS.SHK, Home.SHK, and Reference.SHK. Although everything will work from 3.5" disks, we strongly recommend using a hard drive. 4. Launch HyperCard IIGS from the Finder (or other program selector). 5. HyperCard IIGS will automatically load and run the Home.Stack. Just click on the Reference.Stack icon to use the TrueType Reference stack. 6. The TrueType Reference stack gives the name of the font and a small sample of what the font looks like. Use ShrinkIt-GS to unpack the fonts you've selected. Once unpacked, they can be added to the Pointless menu (follow the instructions in the Pointless manual). 7. Don't judge font quality by the appearance of the font on your screen. Some TrueType fonts are designed specifically for screen display, but others aren't. While both kinds of fonts will scale and print correctly, only the kind designed for display will look nice on your screen. 8. Not all TrueType fonts are readable at all point sizes. Some TrueType fonts are best suited for use in headlines, so they look better at larger point sizes. 9. TrueType fonts can take up a lot of memory. If you're running low on memory, configure (using the Configure option on the Pointless menu) the fonts you use to generate only the characters you need for your particular project.
