Babelfish How to Install Babelfish Within the Babelfish folder are an Icons folder and a System folder. Within the System folder are various sub-folders. Simply place the contents of each folder into their respective folders on your boot disk. You may already have a copy of the Help NDA installed, so you can omit this file, and its associated Help.Files, if you wish. Some, but not all users, have had problems with the SFUtility Init. It is not absolutely necessary to install this file, but the auto-selection of the Babelfish filters will be disabled if it is not present. Try changing the load order of your inits, placing SFUtility last, if you get any problems. The Why and Wherefore of Babelfish Babelfish provides applications with a standard way to import data from, and export data to, a variety of file formats. By supporting a single import/export format, applications can instantly support many file formats--and the applicationÕs import/export capabilities are increased whenever a new translator is released. Babelfish isnÕt useful all by itself--applications must be written to use it. We have provided one application with Babelfish: a New Desk Accessory (NDA) called ÒConvert FileÓ. You can use this NDA from any desktop application to select a file for conversion, then save the file in any compatible format. For example, you could select a IIGS font and save it as a Print Shop GS font, or select a HyperStudio sound and save it as an rSound resource. In addition to the Convert File NDA, Babelfish is supported by SuperConvertÊv4.0. The upcoming Spectrum v2.2 update will support Babelfish, and we hope to add GraphicWriterÊIII to that list in the future. We decided to release Babelfish as freeware for two main reasons. First, we hope that the programmers who are still coding for the IIGS will support Babelfish by writing even more translators for it, thus enhancing all the applications that use it. Second, we want to remind you of all the great IIGS products that have been written and/or supported by Richard Bennett, Ewen Wannop, Ian Brumby, Geoff Weiss, and our other programmers. We hope that you will thank them by placing an order with us.
