AWGS J __________________________________________________________________ Installing Version 1.1 on a System 5.04 Hard Disk __________________________________________________________________ While the GS/OS System 5.02 supplied with AppleWorks GS is the recommended operating system for AppleWorks GS, AppleWorks GS will also run under GS/OS 5.04. Although Claris has not done any formal testing of AppleWorks GS on GS/OS 5.04, we are currently not aware of any significant problems. All GS/OS users: When running with a minimum memory configuration (1.25 MBytes with ROM 01 or 1.125 MBytes with ROM 03) be sure to set the RAM Cache to 0K (Zero Kilobytes) using the RAM Icon in the Control Panel under the Apple in the menu bar. 3.5 Drive (floppy disk) users: Claris recommends GS/OS 5.04 not be used with AppleWorks GS on floppy based systems. There is not enough room on a floppy disk to contain all the files to properly run AppleWorks GS under GS/OS 5.04. Hard Disk users: Follow these instructions to verify the version of GS/OS you are using. If your hard disk is not running GS/OS you may skip this section. -Launch AppleWorks GS from the Program Disk -Select Cancel from Open Menu -Hold down the Option key on the keyboard and choose RAbout AppleWorks GSS under the Apple icon in the menu bar. GS/OS version is 3.1 or lower; This is GS/OS System 5.0 or earlier GS/OS version=3.1p; This is GS/OS System 5.02 GS/OS version=3.3 or greater; This is GS/OS System 5.04 or later To install GS/OS 5.04 onto a SCSI hard drive: Obtain the GS/OS System 5.04 package from an Apple dealer, drive manufacturer or User Group. Use the GS/OS Installer that is on the System Tools Disk to install GS/5.04 to your hard disk. Do not drag copy GS/OS to your hard disk. Install each item separately. Do not use the installers on the AppleWorks GS Utilities disk or the Apple High Speed SCSI Utilities Disk. You may need to create a floppy startup disk before hard disk installation in order for the system installer to recognize the hard drive. Consult the GS/OS system instructions on how to do this. The minimum scripts that should be installed are: Latest System Files Additional Fonts A.C.E. Tool Kit SCSI Driver-Use for all Apple SCSI cards Printer drivers. (ImageWriter and 5.25 disk drivers are installed with Latest System files.) Do not install the script RLatest System Files (No Finder)S. If you already have a system on your hard disk, click on the RRemoveS button before clicking on the RInstallS button for each of the above scripts. If you are not using an Apple SCSI interface for your disk drive, consult the instructions that came with your drive or interface card to install the proper driver. After GS/OS is properly installed onto your hard disk, Install AppleWorks GS: -Boot the hard disk and insert AppleWorks GS Utilities disk into the 3.5 drive. -Create a folder on the hard disk and name it RAWGSS -Copy the Dictionaries folder on the AppleWorks GS Utilities Disk into the AWGS folder on the hard drive. -Eject the AppleWorks GS Utilities Disk and insert the AppleWorks GS Program Disk into the floppy drive -Locate the file, AppleWorks.GS and copy it to the AWGS folder on the hard drive. -Eject the AppleWorks GS Program disk and insert the AppleWorks GS System disk. Copy the following from the AppleWorks GS System disk to their respective folders on your hard drive. -Open the Icons folder on the AppleWorks GS System disk and copy AW.Icons and AWGS.Icons to the respective folder on the hard drive. -Close the Icon folder and open the System folder on the AppleWorks GS System disk. -Open the Fonts folder in the System folder of AppleWorks GS System disk. -Choose Select All from the Edit Menu. Drag all the fonts from the AppleWorks GS System Disk into the respective Fonts folder of the hard disk. When the dialog message box appears that warns that the file already exists, select the RDonUt replace any duplicate itemsS button. -Close the Fonts folder of the AppleWorks GS System disk. -Open the Drivers folder in the System folder of the AppleWorks GS System disk. -Copy the file ImageWriter.CL into the respective folder of the hard disk. -Close the Drivers folder and System folder of the AppleWorks GS System Disk. -Eject the AppleWorks GS System Disk and insert the AppleWorks GS Tools Disk. -Open the System folder and Fonts folder of the AppleWorks GS Tools Disk. -Choose Select All from the Edit Menu. Drag all the fonts from the AppleWorks GS Tools Disk into the respective Fonts folder of the hard disk. When the dialog message box appears that warns that the file already exists, select the RDonUt replace any duplicate itemsS button. -Close the Fonts folder of the AppleWorks GS Tools disk. ImageWriter Users: The AppleWorks GS Installer normally installs the ImageWriter.CL printer driver. You may use this printer driver with GS/OS 5.04 by copying as above. However you may prefer to use the ImageWriter driver that came with GS/OS. If you do, consult the GS/OS System Documentation for instructions on its use.
