AppleWorks J __________________________________________________________________ "AppleWorks Requires 128K" Message __________________________________________________________________ When attempting to run AppleWorks 2.x or 3.0 on an Apple IIe with less than 128K of RAM, the following message will be displayed: "AppleWorks Requires 128K". The Apple IIe comes equipped with only 64K installed on the motherboard. Thus, to run AppleWorks, at least an additional 64K must be installed in the auxiliary slot. This is generally accomplished by installing an Apple Extended 80-column card. The word "Extended" signifies that the 80-column card contains an additional 64K of RAM. Be aware that there are Apple and non-Apple 80-column cards which do not contain an additional 64K. Apple IIe computers equipped with these "unextended" 80-column cards will not be able to run AppleWorks. The base memory of 64K can also be expanded by installing an auxiliary memory expansion board, which also provides 80-column display, in the auxiliary slot (e.g., RamWorks from Applied Engineering). IMPORTANT: Without at least an additional 64K in the auxiliary slot of the IIe, AppleWorks 2.x and 3.0 will not run. This is the case even if a memory expansion board is installed in one of the back slots (such as the Apple Memory Expansion board). AppleWorks 2.x and 3.0 will recognize this "back slot" memory only when the primary condition of having 64K on the motherboard and at least 64K in the auxiliary slot has been satisfied.
