Apple Systems, AppleWorks, AWGS J __________________________________________________________________ Canon Alternative to StyleWriter for Apple IIs __________________________________________________________________ The Apple StyleWriter is not currently compatible with the Apple II series of computers. But those who want ink-jet quality printouts from AppleWorks or AppleWorks GS have an inexpensive alternative: the Cannon BJ-10e. The BJ-10e retails for less than the Apple StyleWriter, it includes an Epson Emulator, sheet feeder, and canvas carrying case. It uses the exact same print engine as the StyleWriter. It offers only a parallel port, so Apple owners without parallel cards will have to get one (such as the Grappler card) to use it. The full retail price for the printer, sheet feeder, and carrying case is between $420 and $500. Epson mode offers italics, graphics, and proportional fonts, as well as a variety of monospaced fonts. The fonts are not identical to those available with Macintosh computers, however. It also features a "gray" mode in which all print is rendered in a medium gray. Customers report that the Canon BJ-10e works well with AppleWorks 3.0. Its special features are accessed via special control codes.
