ELECTMUSIC Thats a Good Indication Silver. DTune is my test program AFL JoyceM Greg, do I remember that there is a problem with Audio Animator and MusicStudio? AFC Eddie By Diversitune working, do you mean through the Yamaha? SilverSage I presume a configuration problem...but I can't figure it!!! ELECTMUSIC Yes, there is Joyce SilverSage Yes, Eddie...in and out ELECTMUSIC MStudio will ONLY recognize the Apple Interface (or compatable) AFC Eddie You need an external MIDI interface for Musicstudio. ELECTMUSIC AANimator is a little tricky as far as Midi is concerned. AAnimator will work for most other software programs SilverSage Eddie, I'll buy one...I 've been told I'll need an external for MastertracksPro AFC Eddie MTPro should recognize an internal, but I'm not sure about A. Animator. SilverSage But Joyce told me that Music Studio works just find with Audio Animator. And I can't get it to. And I'm frustrated... ELECTMUSIC Don't be frustrated.... I have both as well AFC Eddie Sorry, Silversage, nothing you can do:( SilverSage Elect...recommend a brand and I'll send for it tomorrow! ELECTMUSIC AAnimator is a very convenient Digitizer as well as an good intro into Midi. Silver, I am using Apple's Midi Interface (againg cause it is a convenient one) Kuby 2 U Is this where they're anouncing the winners? AFC Eddie You're in the right place, Kid! Kuby 2 U Eddie!! Hiyas!![][][][][][] <--qlink style hugs! AFC Eddie LOL! ELECTMUSIC I am sure there are very good external interfacees that are cheaper, though SilverSage Question to the Group: Cost is no object. What's the BEST external MIDI interface? DanW190 (loves SS..can't wait for v1.0!) ELECTMUSIC Check in our Midi forum for some ideas AFC Eddie Any one that works for the Mac should work for the GS, Silver. DanW190 You can probably check in Keyboard magazine, Silversage.. they've got mixing MIDI boxes or stuff like that, which say, "Macintosh" compatible..they might work, ask the experts, though :) SilverSage No one wants to take a stand on this? I thought YOU were the experts, Dan!!! AFC Eddie I like the Apple one, Silver. Simple, and effective. Kuby 2 U Money no object? Andy ABF Sorry Silver, I know nothing about MIDI. ELECTMUSIC As far as compatability I would stick with Apple's. Kuby 2 U <--would get a Korg! AFL Marty Money's no object? Say... I think I can find one to sell you. :D DanW190 (would get a Wavestation) :) Kuby 2 U (Maybe we can win one on AOL) SilverSage Money is no object...compatability is... DanW190 Heck, or a Synclavier while we're dreaming :) Kuby 2 U Right now.. I'd be happy wiff a Sound Canvas.. AFC Eddie Silver's been talking about an interface, not a board! AFC Eddie Darla, you could make good music with a washboard! ELECTMUSIC Silver... what are you interested indoing with Midi? Kuby 2 U Awww.. that's so nice of you to say! AFL JoyceM Silver, I apologize - I don't have AA and wasn't sure. Sorry SilverSage Love it...If I hit it with a wet washcloth, it still doesn't interface!!! Kuby 2 U What synth are you usin, Sage? SilverSage ELECT, I'm working on a Musical Version of Wilder's "Our Town" And writing an Oratoio on Tschykovsk'y Fifth Dr Teeth Gremlins in the programming (and Eddie's in the wash....) AFL JoyceM Okay...I have an announcement first and then we can talk about MIDI. We do have some MIDI experts here tonight. Great, Silver...a big undertaking. Regarding SoundSmith. Seven Hills will be our guest next week to discuss the next version of SoundSmith. It does have MIDI capabilities, but very awkward to use or input with. As you all might know, Seven Hills will be releasing this program in the near future. AFL JoyceM Dr. Teeth...you had a comment about SS also? Dr Teeth Just that a friend of mine had a very recent letter from Heuibert (sic) who said NOT to send anymore shareware fees to him.....Seven Hills has COMPLETE rights to SoundSmith and Heuibert doesn't.....And that was all. My friend also got a prerelease version of SS 1.0, but I haven't seen it yet ELECTMUSIC Silver.... MStudio is somewhat limited in its musical scope, are you scoring or performing the music? SilverSage I have the inspiration...I need the Technology...Scoring, EM DanW190 Is Seven Hills accepting ideas for SS v1.0? (like mainly ideas for helpful commands editing commands?) :) ELECTMUSIC Ok, then you should check out MusicWriter by Pyware. ELECTMUSIC Silver, MWriter works very well for scoring, and also is supposed to work with Audio Animator. AFL JoyceM Dan, you can send your suggestions/ideas to SevenHill here on AOL. Dr Teeth They had better damn well.... DanW190 (perhaps suggest SS v1.0 use the real clipboard, for example) :) AFL JoyceM That's SevenHills Kuby 2 U Do you guys have something like Ballade for the Apple? AFL JoyceM Okay...next announcement and it is a BIG one... AFC Eddie Tell us about Ballade. Kuby 2 U Ballade started out being MT-32 specific but it has since grown to use all snyths.. DanW190 Ballade? Big surprise? Do tell! :) Kuby 2 U You can enter notes via REAL music notation.. or play your keyboard into it..(am I being made fun of, or what?) DanW190 (I'm just asking, I'm not sure what the big surprise is?) SilverSage 'That's what I want, Kuby...!!!! AFL JoyceM Kuby, for the IBM only, right? Kuby 2 U Geeze.. I'm a fish outta water here.. I use an IBM compat.. ELECTMUSIC But Music Writer works in a similiar fashion AFL JoyceM Not a problem...we like to know what is going on with other computers too :) Mac Hater as long as you don't use a mac, its ok kuby. AFL JoyceM Remember, we all like Music :) AFC Eddie Music is the universal language for computers, too! DanW190 Music is the universal language! (or something like that) Kuby 2 U No.. I started wiff a commie.. and now I use an AT! ELECTMUSIC You can use a Midi Keyboard to input "realTime" notation and actually see the notes appear on the staff as you play!!!!! BCS Frank ... and some of us like com puters too. :) Kuby 2 U <--agrees wiff Eddie..That's JUST like Ballade!!! Kuby 2 U Electmusic.. Ballade is < $100, can the program beat that price? ELECTMUSIC Sort of... The 3 staff version is $100 AFC Eddie Can Ballade do 40 staves??? AFL JoyceM Okay....now for another BIG announcement. Remember back in November when we...announced our Holiday Contest? Well....We have some winners and Gene will tell you all who won... Gene? AFA Gene okay....... AFA Gene (drum roll) ---- AFC Eddie ::Waiting with baited breath for the big announcment:: AFA Gene First prize goes to a subscriber who has recently been very active in our AFA Gene forum, uploading a number of excellent files and really making his presence known in the forum. His version of "Ave Maria" was an excellent use of SoundSmith to create impressive sounds without resorting to the "techno-pop" style that SoundSmith promotes heavily by its interface and method of song production. Therefore............ a whopping SEVEN FREE HOURS is hereby awarded to..... Dr Teeth !!!! Congratualations! AFC Eddie Alright, Dr Teeth!!!!!!!!!!!!! AFL JoyceM :) Kuby 2 U Congratulations Dr Teeth! AFA Gene But wait, there are more winners! Dr Teeth I think...I'm going to cry....-Daffy Dumas Duck Kuby 2 U (can someone transform his winning file into a Midi?) BCS Frank Congrats, Dr. :) AFC Eddie Sorry, no Darla. Kuby 2 U Way to go DR. Teeth!! ELECTMUSIC Congrats Dr!!!!!! AFA Gene Congrats Teeth, your active participation in the forum is very much appreciated Dr Teeth Kuby----- WHY???? Kuby 2 U So *I* can hear it! AFA Gene Darla: the SoundSmith format is kinda like MODs on the PC. Can't be converted to MIDI with the current software technology. Dr Teeth Oh, yeah, IBM AFC Eddie So that it can be played thru REAL instruments, Teeth! Kuby 2 U I can play Mods..<--also has a sound blaster.. ELECTMUSIC Kuby.... as soon as SoundSmith 1.0 is released, we should be able to convert it Dr Teeth Converting SS to mods would be an interesting project for Ian Schmit, ne pas? Kuby 2 U Can it be be turned into a Mod? AFA Gene Oui oui, teeth AFC Eddie Good idea, Teeth! Kuby 2 U Well lets get it movin, Electmusic! ::tease:: AFA Gene Darla, hopefully, with the release of several conversion programs coming in the next couple months, such a conversion will be possible. Dr Teeth Besides, most mods enforce to only 4 Playable collumns, and I find that very restricting. Mac Hater except 16-.4 channels. Dr Teeth Interlesting, velly interlesting... Kuby 2 U I don't know about on the apple.. but on the IBM, Mod files are big.. very big and bulky.. same on the apple? AFA Gene (yep Darla... the same exact data file is used directly by the apple) Dr Teeth SoundSmith is limited to only 64k of instruments used at one time, so SS files are reletively small..... Kuby 2 U Plus it can do Midi's too? Dr Teeth No AFC Eddie Not yet... Kuby 2 U Wouldn't that be nice.. we really need a standard.. AFA Gene Anyway......... now, for the second prize............. We had a three way tie for second place... three uploads which had special qualities to each of them..... therefore this also means that the second prize is split up three ways, but this still means a FREE hour plus FREE software to the winners! They are: Counse for his rendition of "Silent Night" Kuby 2 U for her rendition of "Jingle Bell Rock" And GregH35662 for his "Christmas Mini-Pak" ELECTMUSIC Nice Arrangement Kuby AFC Eddie Way to go, Kuby! AFA Gene Congratulations to all our winners! Kuby 2 U Thank you!! May I suggest that you announce all future contests throughout AOL.? Dr Teeth Hmmm maybe I should take a look at Jingle Bell rock, but I almost have no patience with Synth-Lab AFC Eddie Congratulations, All! RAYMO1 Hello, may I ask a question? AFA Gene Sure, Raymo! RAYMO1 I am having a problem using Sonic Blaster. When I try to record, it appears everything is working, but when I playback, I get no sound. I'm using a mike, any ideas about what my prob could be? AFC Eddie Do you get a wave on the screen? RAYMO1 No AFC Eddie Then it's not recording. What slot is the card in? RAYMO1 Slot 2. I am able to play Noisetracker, Synthlab etc through it AFC Eddie Is slot 2 set to "Your Card" when you record? RAYMO1 Yes it is. And the mike is turned on. It's a Radio Shack ELECTMUSIC Ray... I have Sonic Blaster connected to slot 6 AFC Eddie Are you sure the Mic is plugged into the "IN" Jack? RAYMO1 Slot six has my Ramfast. Slot two is what they recommend ELECTMUSIC Is the Mike working? RAYMO1 Yes, because there are two jacks, and the out goes to speakers, & they work RAYMO1 I assume the mike works, but that's a good question. AFC Eddie Ray, you should try the Mic in another place, like a tape recorder. RAYMO1 I'll be right back while I try that! AFC Eddie OK, Ray! Kuby 2 U Thank you all for allowing me to participate in the contest!! AFL JoyceM Speaking of conversion programs....Mike Nuzzi, would you like to talk a little about SoundConvert? AFC Eddie Thanks for entering, Kuby. Please keep doing so! Kuby 2 U (You haven't seen the last of me, Eddie!) ;) BCS Frank Go, Mike! :) Dr Teeth BTW, does anyone have any information on the SoundSmith Song file format? Nuzz Sure, SoundConvert is ready when you are AFC Eddie Good! AFL JoyceM :) Dr Teeth I really need to find out about the particulars (send E-Mail PLEASE!) Nuzz SoundSmith format is documented in an Apple File Type tech-note. Try the dev forum and dl it Dr Teeth All of it, really?!!! BCS Frank RAYMO1 Can you believe my expensive tape deck doesn't have a mike jack? Nuzz BTW, the NDA part of SoundConvert saves as SoundSmith intrument, among other formats. Dr Teeth I'll have to check out our local Users Group Apple ambassador for the Technotes AFL JoyceM So, Mike how can one get SoundConvert? RAYMO1 I'll have to go back to RShack. Any other ideas if the mike works? Dr Teeth Could explain what SoundConvert is exactly. I don't think that I've seen it. AFA Gene Raymo, that's actually quite common... the more expensive tape decks expect the mike input to originate from a separate mixer or amplifier. AFC Eddie Yes, there is a way to adjust the record level in Sonic Blaster software, Ray. Raymo I've tried the record level, but thanks for the thought. Nuzz SC can be ordered right from Triad (inro special) or from Quality, and A2 center. SC is a 2 part package One part Stack based (HCGS) digitize directly into HCGS) rename sounds, import sounds, export sounds, and play with the rHeader. The other part is a digitizing NDA. ELECTMUSIC Ray... you could also try some other sound source... ie, like the cassette deck Nuzz Most useful when system 6 is released Dr Teeth Ahh, THAT SoundConvert.....(Thanks) JP1 Mike, what 'format' does the NDA save digitized data in? Nuzz Sys6 supports the playing and assigning of sounds right from the Sound Cdev. John the Nda saves as rSound, Bin, SoundSmith and HyperStudio. Sys6 sounds will be rSounds RAYMO1 Aha! I think I'll try the tape deck, off I go, thanks everyone for your help. Nuzz The sound capability of system 6 will make sysbeep, startsound inits old hat overnight AFC Eddie Bye, Raymo - let us know! AFC Eddie Nuzz, what's the quickest way to get SConvert from Triad? Nuzz Quickest way is to drive to our office :) AFC Eddie I mean to order it! Nuzz Other than that, just drop a check in the mail. AFC Eddie Amount? Address? Nuzz Quality does have it in stock as well as A2 Central AFL JoyceM My check is in the mail.... :) Nuzz Triad Venture Nuzz P.O. Box 12201 Nuzz Hauppauge NY 11788 Nuzz $28 (includes shipping) AFC Eddie Is that the same as Quality's and A2's price? Nuzz I really don't know Eddie AFC Eddie OK. Thanks, Nuzz! AFL JoyceM Yesterday, A2 Central didn't know they had it :) Nuzz I'm always last to find out. Thats odd Joyce, maybe they haven't entered it in their computer yet AFL JoyceM I gathered so, Mike...I had them check two places too. Oh well. Nuzz Tom Vanderpool ordered some, and I know it went out AFC Eddie Not available through BRCC, Mike? ELECTMUSIC Mike... does Triad have any software that records using Tool35 Nuzz Quality should have theirs by now too AFL JoyceM Do you all know that they use a CP/M program on their GS for their data base? Strange! ELECTMUSIC Geez, they must be using a IIE card Nuzz Not yet Greg... But we might update ClipTunes to do that AFC Eddie WOW! ELECTMUSIC Is it a real big deal to get cliptunes to record? Nuzz Yes and no. It will have to be rewritten though. Which would give an opportunity to exploit the HS 3.0 AFC Eddie Sounds like a good idea, Mike. ELECTMUSIC Ahhh... ok AFL JoyceM That it would, Mike. AFL JoyceM Okay...thanks all..----------log off------------
