AFL Scott Good evening. Welcome to the Apple II Art & Graphics AFL Scott Forum Conference for Friday, October 26, 1990. AFL Scott Tonight, we've got a special treat for you! AFL Scott AFL Scott Seven Hills Software is probably best known in AFL Scott Apple IIGS circles for Graphicwriter. That may AFL Scott just change in the very near future. Apple IIGS AFL Scott graphics enthusiasts throughout the country will AFL Scott want to pay close attention tonight as Seven Hills AFL Scott Software's Dave Hecker introduces you to the world AFL Scott of an old friend, enhanced, more powerful than AFL Scott ever, and still very easy to use. Everyone here AFL Scott tonight has a need for this program. It is a AFL Scott staple to Apple IIGS users diet. Tonight, Seven AFL Scott Hills Software is going to introduce you to AFL Scott SuperConvert by SHRConvert author and well known AFL Scott graphics program Jason Harper. AFL Scott AFL Scott Before we get started tonight, I'd like to let AFL Scott you know that this conference is being held AFL Scott under strict, unyielding protocol. To ask a AFL Scott question, signify so by typing "?". To make AFL Scott a comment on the current question, signify so AFL Scott by typing "!". Your screen name will be entered AFL Scott into a queue. You will be called in turn. AFL Scott Comments have precedence over questions, however, AFL Scott we will serve comments only until it starts to AFL Scott bog down people waiting to ask questions. AFL Scott AFL Scott Without further delay, ladies and gentlemen, AFL Scott let's all give a warm welcome to Dave Hecker AFL Scott of Seven Hills Software! Welcome to AFL Scott the Apple II Art & Graphics Forum, Dave!:) AFL Scott Ok... Dave, Tonight we're running under protocol, so please, do tell us AFL Scott a little something about SuperConvert!:) SevenHills SuperConvert converts a wide variety of graphic formats to Super Hires format. SevenHills It has a variety of image-manipulation features, and a few nifty "extras" SevenHills such as printing banners, expanding graphics to SevenHills print very large signs, generating a font reference SevenHills list, and a key chart reference for a font. AFL Scott Sounds Great Dave... Are you up for some questions from the people here? SevenHills Sure, that's what I like! Ask away! AFL Scott BBUD, you're up! :) Fire away!:) BBUD BSS Ok, Dave, I have a few questions about SuperConvert. AFL Scott Limit yourself to two for this round, please. BBUD BSS First, one that you may not be able to answer. Are there any plans to include BBUD BSS support for converting graphics from SuperPrint (from Scholastic)? BBUD BSS and second... BBUD BSS On MacPaint conversions, what file types must the MacPaint graphics be saved BBUD BSS in? Apple II File Exchange saves them in $06 or Bin but the new Graphic Exch- SevenHills If we could get the format for SuperPrint, BBUD BSS ange from RWP requires MacPaint docs to be in $00. ga SevenHills we'd like to include it, but we could not get the SevenHills format for writing a GW III translator, so I imagine SevenHills they still would not share the format. AFL Scott :( AFL Scott That's bad! AFL Scott Shame on the SuperPrint people! :( SevenHills When you try to load a MacPaint graphic, I think it SevenHills (SuperConvert) initially limits to type $06 or $00, SevenHills but there is a checkbox that you can check so that SevenHills ANY file can be selected, regardless of filetype. BBUD BSS Thanks, I try it tonight. SevenHills This means that so long as you know a particular file SevenHills is MacPaint, you can select it regardless of type. AFL Scott Pig Bit, you're up with your comment!:) GA!:) Pig bit I have the program and it is a VERY nice to see the upgrade. VERY NICE !! Pig bit GA AFL Scott Thanks Pig!:) GA with your comment, Tim!:) AFP TimB I'm glad to see that you're going with the checkbox to accept any type and not some obscure ... AFP TimB keystroke combination. :) GA SevenHills Originally we had a way to change file/auxtypes, but SevenHills the checkbox idea is so much easier. AFL Scott Marian, you're up!:) Fire when ready!:) GuS Grafix What new conversions have been added? Will it read Mac, Atari, Amiga, etc disks GuS Grafix directly? GA SevenHills It does not read disks directly--the graphics must SevenHills be on a ProDOS disk. But it does convert graphics SevenHills from all those, plus IBM, Commodore, and computer- SevenHills independent (plus Apple II and IIGS formats). AFL Scott (It does a damn good job, too!:)) SevenHills I might have missed a couple. AFL Scott Followup, Marian? GuS Grafix Yes... GuS Grafix How does one get, say, Atari graphics to ProDOS... I know how to do it from GuS Grafix Mac, but not other machines. GA SevenHills The easiest way to get graphics from computers SevenHills other than the Mac is by downloading it either from SevenHills an online service, or modeming to/from a friend SevenHills with that other computer. GuS Grafix (I was afraid you'd say that :) GuS Grafix done AFL Scott Jonah, you're up! :) SevenHills SuperConvert is scheduled to ship in November for $39.95 (available through all normal channels). ShanoJ Okay, I was wondering about a topic close to my heart: How good is the 3200 ShanoJ color support?! :) SevenHills It will load 3200 compressed and uncompressed SevenHills graphics. When you convert that to SuperHires, you're SevenHills obviously going to lose some quality because you're going SevenHills from 3200 colors down to 256 or so. AFL Scott Followup, Jonah? ShanoJ Oh, so it can't actually DISPLAY 3200 color stuff, just load the pictures? Poo. SevenHills I believe a "3200 color" picture would fall into ShanoJ Also, what format compressed pictures does it load? The new APF w/MULTIPAL & SevenHills the category of a "true color image," which you can ShanoJ Brain format & FrenchUCK pictures? SevenHills load and SuperConvert does have an option for SevenHills simulating a display of a "true color image" SevenHills (a "true color image" are images that aren't limited SevenHills to the NORMAL IIGS screen modes). AFL Scott GA Marian!:) GuS Grafix What is the upgrade policy for registered owners of SHRConvert (I'm one! ) ga SevenHills Owners who register SHRConvert with Jason before SevenHills October 31, 1990 will be receiving an upgrade SevenHills notice. Cost will be $40 minus the amount paid SevenHills to register with Jason. AFL Scott That sound fair to me!:) GuS Grafix Thanks and done. AFL Scott GA with your question, Ethan, dude!:) EthanA Is there going to be an SHR Convert 3.0? I heard rumors of that, and was EthanA wondering if this is it SevenHills SuperConvert is essentially "SHRConvert v3.00": SevenHills The name was changed to "SuperConvert" to reflect EthanA So there will be no EthanA Shareware version or anything correct? SevenHills that it is a COMMERCIAL program (not shareware). SevenHills In fact, the version number of SuperConvert is 3.00. AFL Scott Followup, Ethan? SevenHills Correct...newer version of SHRConvert will not exist. BBUD BSS Any chance that a future version will allow "batch" transfers? By the way, I BBUD BSS love SuperConvert, it works well, and there have been few problems so far. SevenHills There are preferences for converting batch files. SevenHills You can do a "load a files in directory" and it will SevenHills load the first one, you can work with it, and once SevenHills you save the conversion it can automatically load SevenHills and convert the next graphic. AFL Scott GA with your question, DYA Jim1 :) SevenHills (It does require user participation, but speeds the process for batch files.) DYA Jim1 Okay, I was wondering how/if it converts pictures into >16 color pictures.. DYA Jim1 You mentioned that 3200 pics can be converted into multi-palette pictures; DYA Jim1 can the other conversions also do multi-palette conversions? SevenHills You can convert something like a regular SevenHills SuperHires image into a "true color image" that SevenHills basically allows unlimited colors. You can manipulate SevenHills it there. I think the catch is that currently the SevenHills SAVE formats are things like "SuperHires" and SevenHills "Finder Icon", etc. So you can CREATE the image SevenHills but there is no useful format to save it in. AFL Scott Followup, Jim? DYA Jim1 You mean the SuperHiRes save automatically scales down pictures to 16 colors? SevenHills Next question-=> "Why have a 'true color image' then?" AFL Scott Close!:)) SevenHills Very! SevenHills When you save in a format like "Finder icon," you SevenHills are limited in the colors you can have. So in a way, SevenHills it does scale the palette down. DYA Jim1 But normal APF saves do allow up to 256 colors. SevenHills So with that format you could save up to 256 colors. ShanoJ iDYA Jim1 AFL Scott Next up is Jonah! GA, Jonah!:) DYA Jim1 Oh, okay then.. thanks SevenHills The number of colors depends on what format you save in. ShanoJ Um.... Oh ya, I remember: what size restrictions are there? The old SHRConvert ShanoJ had a problem that it could only load 64K of picture (two screens worth) which ShanoJ could really suck with big APF and GIF files. Has this been removed with the ShanoJ new version? SevenHills I know there is a size limit, but I don't know if it's SevenHills a specific memory size or not. In testing we were SevenHills having problems with large APF files, so Jason has SevenHills modified it so the APF is truncated at the maximum SevenHills size instead of just refusing to load the image. But SevenHills again, I don't know what the size limit is. AFL Scott Dave, from the Arc, it looks like it's still 64K. I'll confirm this with VeeJayBee ? AFL Scott my copy tonight and get back to Jonah with an answer. ShanoJ Well, I'd like to voice a vote for complete support of big pictures.... SevenHills OK. Thanks. (BTW, the copy you have does not have SevenHills the APF change..it was changed as a result of b1.) AFL Scott Oh, Ok...:) SevenHills There is support for "true color images," which is SevenHills NOT limited to the size or resolution of the IIGS SevenHills screen, so I think the 64K limit has been removed. SevenHills I'll check with Jason so I now for next time! SevenHills now=know AFL Scott I think we should clear up "True Color Images"... Basically, it's a form AFL Scott of dithering very similar in form to a QuickColor picture under old AST AFL Scott VisionPlus and Visionary GS software. It uses three lines of color vice AFL Scott interspersed dots. It looks really nice, though! Scrolling is very fast, AFL Scott too!:) AFL Scott GA with your comment DYA Jim1!:) SevenHills That's the method for displaying the image..in SevenHills memory each pixel is associated with a specific color. DYA Jim1 I just wanted to also vote for handling of large (ie at least 4x the size of DYA Jim1 a normal shr screen) pictures.. it would be a very nice feature.. EthanA Is Jason Harper going to become a part of your staff or a part/full time EthanA programmer? AFL Scott Ethan...:) AFL Scott GA..:) EthanA Yes, I did:) AFL Scott I know..:) SevenHills I hope that Jason will work with us on other EthanA Hehehehe SevenHills projects, but I'm not sure what his interests are. AFL Scott Graphics??? :) AFL Scott Followup, Ethan? SevenHills (Beyond graphics conversion, that is.) :) EthanA No thanks Scott AFL Scott (My node is very slow... please bear with me) AFL Scott GA with your question VeeJayBee!:) VeeJayBee Any progress on obtaining copyrights for the GIF format for a future upgrade ? VeeJayBee Or is it a 'dead horse' ? SevenHills Not yet. We're still trying to track down a SevenHills number for the UniSys legal department. The problem SevenHills isn't so much GIF, but the fact that GIF uses SevenHills LZW compression, which apparently cannot be used in SevenHills a commercial program. AFL Scott Followup, VeeJayBee? SevenHills It's definitely not a dead issue...we're hoping UniSys will be reasonable. VeeJayBee :: sad :: VeeJayBee thanks, done.. GA AFL Scott We have a special guest here tonight, please hold all Non-topical questions AFL Scott Marian, still there? GuS Grafix Does what you just said mean that SuperConvert will not be able to do what ... GuS Grafix SHRConvert can do.. load GIFs and covert them? GuS Grafix GA ShanoJ (Don't be silly, SHRConvert can't do that, either... Sorry... :) SevenHills That's right. Being shareware, GIF conversion SevenHills was legal. AFL Scott Followup, Marian? GuS Grafix Thanks done AFL Scott GA with your question, Pig Bit!:) Pig bit Could Seven Hills release an add-on which is Public Domain. The Add-non would Pig bit be able to cload and convert GIF? SevenHills We've been considering different ideas, that one included. Pig bit GA AFL Scott Ok, now it's my turn...:) SevenHills uh oh, the boss! AFL Scott I have heard a rumor that Jason Harper wants ... AFL Scott All copies of SHRConvert removed from all download libraries on all systems... AFL Scott is this true, and if so, what will the IIGS users use to replace it to save GerryR5 really??? :( AFL Scott files to GIF format? SevenHills That could be true. I think Jason is basically SevenHills tired of supporting SHRConvert as shareware, and ShanoJ (Convert 3200? If people pay the shareware, you never know WHAT might turn up:) SevenHills that's why he found a publisher for the program. AFL Scott I'm gonna ask a followup, here...:) AFL Scott Ok... I'd like to know where you're getting your information on patents and AFL Scott such? My reasoning is that Adobe has GIF support in PhotoShop and its AFL Scott commercial... Not that I'm complaining, it's just that I don't know what end AFL Scott is up... Look at UNIX compress... that's LZW..:) SevenHills Jason told us about the LZW problem, and we still SevenHills have not been able to get confirmation on it because SevenHills we haven't been able to contact the right people SevenHills at UniSys. One rumor we heard is that you CAN include SevenHills LZW in a commercial program--IF you license it for SevenHills $20,000 (which Adobe could afford). So at this point, SevenHills we are still holding out hope to include GIF, but SevenHills we do not want to mislead anyone into thinking it's SevenHills definitely going to be there. AFL Scott Ok... I see... Time for me to back out and let Tim in with his comment...:) AFP TimB SHRConvert in addition to being an awesome conversion program also serves as an super... SevenHills As soon as we get through to UniSys and find anything SevenHills "firm," I'll let everyone know (watch our Direct-Connect area). AFP TimB filetype/auxtype changer. It'll be a GREAT loss to the Apple II world. AFP TimB GA AFL Scott GA, Marian..:) SevenHills You can change file/auxtypes with Disk Access! :) GuS Grafix I though he was also pretty disappointed in the number of people who actually GuS Grafix PAID the shareware fee :((( GA SevenHills Could be. I haven't seen the list of registered SevenHills owners, so don't know how many there are. SevenHills It's always disappointing to put a ton of effort SevenHills into a program to have relatively few "honest" SevenHills copies out there, whether you're shareware or a SevenHills commercial program. AFL Scott I'd also like to mention that Seven Hills has a great new Direct Connect area AFL Scott in AGR and APR to serve you with answers to your questions about the many AFL Scott fine, useful, Seven Hills products!:) AFL Scott GA Tim!:) AFP TimB The solution to shareware non-payment is, IMHO, a limited crippled version of the program with ... AFP TimB the full version sent or enabled on receipt of the fee. AFP TimB See FileTools CDA. AFL Scott Well, that's true... but it's a little off topic, Tim. AFL Scott GA Marian. :) AFP TimB (SOrry) GuS Grafix And SHRConvert is one SUPER program... I bet SuperConvert will be, too,...am... AFL Scott (NFP, Dude!:)) GuS Grafix looking forward to upgrading. GA SevenHills Great! We think it'll be a hit! AFL Scott I'm looking forward to purchasing it!:) I think it's great right now in AFL Scott beta form.. a little slow doing some things, but very, very nice!:) AFL Scott GA Jonah... SevenHills There is going to be one addition over what SevenHills you've got, Scott. AFL Scott What's that, Dave? ShanoJ (Off topic, but...) NO, NO!!! Death to crippled shareware!!! Okay, I'm done.... SevenHills We're adding a TIFF "save format" that is something SevenHills we were working on as a separate product. It will SevenHills save a SuperHires image as TIFF so you can transfer SevenHills it to a Mac and have it printed as a color slide. AFL Scott Wow!!!! That'll be great!!!!!:) SevenHills AWESOME quality screen shots! AFL Scott I can imagine!:) AFL Scott GA Pig Bit!:) Pig bit Is there a chance it will be able to read the graphic directly? ga SevenHills Direct reading of graphics from other formats SevenHills will only happen if Apple releases an "FST" (File SevenHills System Translator). There is high hopes this will SevenHills happen to read Mac disks directly. As for other SevenHills formats...I'd say there's a snowballs chance in hades. AFL Scott Followup? Pig bit no ...Thanks GREAT PROGRAM thou AFL Scott Ok... my turn, then we're gonna wrap for the night... AFL Scott Are you supporting all forms of TIFF or just a few popular variants? SevenHills We're supporting a "new" TIFF format called a SevenHills "palette-based" image. PageMaker 4.0 reads them SevenHills with no problem. AFL Scott OK... Thanks...:) AFL Scott Dave, do you have time for more questions, or should we close? SevenHills We could do a few more if they're quick...maybe no protocol? Just fire away? SevenHills (I'm in Brooksville, FL...kinda like the boonies, so I had to log in long-distance!) AFL Scott The floor is open!:) ShanoJ I'm still confused about the 3200 color stuff. Lemme see if I've got it: it ShanoJ can load 3200 color pictures. It can't show them in 3200 colors, but it can ShanoJ scale them down to 256 and then show them. It can convert pictures into ShanoJ tru color images, but these AREN'T 3200 color pics AND they cant be saved. ShanoJ That's about it, right? ShanoJ What'd I mess up on? :) SevenHills You can load 3200, display a simulation of the 3200 SevenHills "true color image" on the screen, and convert the SevenHills "true color image" into a "screen image" that uses SevenHills a IIGS "normal" display mode. SPEEDLIMIT Welp... was late... Seven Hills... Briefly... what is it that your selling :) ShanoJ Okay, but you're not going to be getting 'REAL' 3200 color conversions like ShanoJ GIF 3200 (and soon Convert 3200) can do, right? SevenHills SuperConvert converts graphics from a wide variety of formats for use on a IIGS. SevenHills Right...currently there is not a "save format" for SevenHills SAVING 3200 color pictures. The main purpose for BBUD BSS Maybe a save format is called for in a future version. There are more and more SevenHills SuperConvert is to convert graphics into SuperHIres BBUD BSS 3200 picture utilities and programs on the horizon. SevenHills for use with your IIGS programs. ShanoJ Ya, but with things like Paint 3200 and DG, I would think saving into 3200 ShanoJ colors would be VERY useful.... SevenHills We are planning to add more save formats. In fact, ShanoJ Also, the ability to convert into 3200 colors would be nice, too. In case you SevenHills we've considering a major upgrade sometime in the GerryR5 :) ShanoJ can't tell, I really get off on 3200 color stuff... :) SevenHills future that would let you load AND save in all SPEEDLIMIT One Question for Seven Hills... Getting a InkJet 500... will this in anyway SevenHills the formats. But that's a long time away. SPEEDLIMIT benifit me during the Printing of some Graphics SevenHills I'll ask Jason about adding a 3200 color SAVE in SevenHills to the first release...it probably would not be SevenHills that difficult. SevenHills InkJet 500 or DeskJet 500? SPEEDLIMIT InkJet 500... ShanoJ Well, if you do get him to do 3200 color saving, PLEASE forware a copy of my ShanoJ post about the APF w/MULTIPAL format to him! I think that the use of a ShanoJ greyscale palette is a GREAT idea, and it really works well... SevenHills Speedlimit: If you have a GS/OS printer driver for SevenHills the InkJet, SuperConvert will be able to print to it. SevenHills The quality will depend upon the driver more than SevenHills SuperConvert. SevenHills There is a limitation to the GS/OS printing SevenHills software in that there is currently no way to SPEEDLIMIT I will use the Vitesse Drivers... :) SevenHills print multiple-palette images (such as 3200 color AFL Scott Low blow.... 15 yard penalty... unsportsmanlike conduct!:) SevenHills images). ShanoJ According to DTS there IS a way to print 3200 color pictures with the new ShanoJ color IWII printer driver... I haven't seen any release notes, though, so I ShanoJ don't know if this is true or not (though, I don't think Matt hates me enough SevenHills There is a WAY in system 5.0.3 (not released yet). ShanoJ to LIE to me about stuff like this.... :) SPEEDLIMIT But do you think some improvement might be made ... Not trying to kill a point SevenHills However, an APPLICATION must be written to take GuS Grafix I thought Platinum Paint was already shipping with 5.0.3 on it? SevenHills advantage of it. (It's done by sending a ShanoJ Ya, but that's not what you said.... You said that SuperConvert would be able SevenHills "picture comment" to change the palette.) This SevenHills is currently only supported in their new ImageWriter SevenHills driver, I believe. AFL Scott It is, but Apple has not released it...:) ShanoJ to do it if the system software COULD handle it... SevenHills That's a big no-no. Especially when Apple has SevenHills gone golden at least 5 times with 5.0.3, each time ShanoJ I hear that the 5.0.3 that Apple is supposed to release soon is a NEWER 5.0.3 ShanoJ than is shipping with PP.... SevenHills a new bug was found. DYA Jim1 SevenHills, the resource mgr one? DYA Jim1 one=but AFL Scott The big question is this... is Apple trying to make it completely bug free? :) DYA Jim1 but=bug DYA Jim1 ack! :) SevenHills They're trying. We are working on another project DYA Jim1 Yep, I've heard that apple has (is releasing soon!) a newer 5.0.3 DYA Jim1 that is NOT on PP right now. SevenHills and found a whole slew of printing-related problems. GuS Grafix ACK! DYA Jim1 It fixes a nasty bug in the resource mgr. AFL Scott UGH! That's 'orrible... Just think... Beagle will have to do a recall! GuS Grafix BBud... does it let you "watercolor" the way that GraphicWriter does? DYA Jim1 But it's worth it scott.. at least apple fixed the bug! BBUD BSS I haven't tried using those options yet. GuS Grafix And Dave (Seven Hills) any chance of getting Seven Hills to do a graphics... DYA Jim1 I can't do any serious resource creation with the current resource manager. DYA Jim1 :( BBUD BSS Still waiting for the complete docs. GuS Grafix only program that incorporates the graphics features of GraphicWriter--things GuS Grafix like watercolor? SevenHills We were considering it, but with the introduction GuS Grafix <---don't need another DTP prog, but I'm ALWAYS game for another graphics prog SevenHills of PP we have tabled that thought for now. ShanoJ Anyone know how long it takes BBros to ship PP to someone on the East coast? ShanoJ I've been expecting it all week... :( DYA Jim1 soon enough :) GuS Grafix Sorry to hear that, SevenHills :( BBUD BSS But what about a 256 color paint program? Or get Jonah to complete his Paint BBUD BSS 3200 program for YOU. ShanoJ Ya, if you wanna publish Paint 3200... :) AFC Tosh :) SPEEDLIMIT Gotta to ask this Question... I understand the limitation of the GS is 16 Grey BBUD BSS Dave, why not look into Jonah's program? Look at what's been done with Twilght SPEEDLIMIT Scales... will the 5.03 make it possible to have more GreyScales ??? DYA Jim1 SpeedLimit, nope DYA Jim1 the 16 greyscale limitation is a limit of the GS hardware.. BBUD BSS How about producing a commercial version of Twilight? (Let's pay Jonah some BBUD BSS money). I have. DYA Jim1 but it's completely satisfactory for most things.. SevenHills No...it's not actually "16 grays"...it's 16 palette AFL Scott No. It's impossible, Speed, gray is a hardware limitation. SevenHills colors. I don't imagine that will change for a DYA Jim1 Heck, i wrote twilight too, ya know. SevenHills long time. BBUD BSS Sorry. DYA Jim1 SevenHills, there are only 16 true shades of grey too ya know. ShanoJ Unless you use Cheap Trick Mode!! :) (I STILL love that... :) AFL Scott Jim is a great programmer, too! SPEEDLIMIT Thanks Jim... Hoping I can do some Business advertising on my GS Etc, with the SPEEDLIMIT InkJet ShanoJ Ya, Jim's a awesome programmer! Wait till you see his new soundsmith player!! DYA Jim1 Good luck! :) DYA Jim1 Yep, it's guaranteed to knock your socks off.. :) SPEEDLIMIT Scott have a few Novice questions for you... wondering do you have access SPEEDLIMIT to using Ink or Lazer printing and what are the results of Grey Scale SPEEDLIMIT using color Pic's SPEEDLIMIT ga AFL Scott At work, it's great, Speed. We simply convert the color picture to grayscale AFL Scott and then to postscript and send it to the printer... photographic quality. SPEEDLIMIT Otay... then its always best to convert the Pic's... now what happens in page AFL Scott SuperConvert can help you out there, Speed!:) SPEEDLIMIT layouts using AWGS or Publish it... what seems to work best mixing Graphics SPEEDLIMIT with Text AFL Scott Same answer.. Get SuperConvert. It does a great 320 mode color to 640 mode AFL Scott mode color conversion. I'm very, very impressed with it!:) SPEEDLIMIT Otay... wish I had been here earlier... is the program available now... or AFL Scott Well, as far as text and graphics go... SPEEDLIMIT are the making it SPEEDLIMIT ga SPEEDLIMIT the=they AFL Scott I'd use a program that is dedicated to that task like GraphicWriter III. AFL Scott AWGS does a good job, but it's not as powerful as GWIII. AFL Scott SuperConvert will be available in November... AFL Scott Dave, do you have a date... guesstimate? SPEEDLIMIT I have PublishIt 3... but Vitesse drivers will not work with P8 prgrams... SevenHills Late November is the scheduled date. Testing is SPEEDLIMIT I haven't checked it yet... I think PUb It 3 has some drivers... but not sure SevenHills going well, so release should not be delayed. AFL Scott Then you're severely limiting yourself in your choice of program... I'm sorry AFL Scott to say this, but I really know nothing about NON-GS applications. SPEEDLIMIT Actually Publish It is about the Only non GS/OS program that I use... SPEEDLIMIT Sounds like you think III can do the same job ??? I don't mind getting it if w AFL Scott The best person to ask about PublishIt is AFL Marty... he's a guru on things SPEEDLIMIT will SPEEDLIMIT ga AFL Scott Personally, You've got the best person to ask about GWIII right here... AFL Scott Dave, how would stack up PublishIt with GWIII? SevenHills GW III is best if you've got a IIGS machine. SevenHills If you need to run on the other Apple II's, PublishIt SevenHills is a fine choice. GW III is written specifically SevenHills for the IIGS, and takes advantage of the power SPEEDLIMIT IIGS I have... ZIPGS I have 2 hrs old as of right now :) :) SevenHills of the IIGS. It's 100% 16-bit assembly language. SevenHills Also, it's got a ton of features...automatic text SevenHills wrap 4 different ways, importing for a ton of SevenHills word-processing and graphic formats, automatic SevenHills scrolling, different page views, and so on. AFL Scott Additionally, GWIII has numerous graphic features that you have to really AFL Scott see to appreciate. It is really quite an integrated masterpiece, IMHO. AFL Scott Very few compromises. SPEEDLIMIT Otay... I'm sold... I've heard that Vitesse Drivers or something... going SPEEDLIMIT to have to ask John about this do or don't work ... Not sure though AFL Scott That I know nothing about... I've got no laser printer at home... if AFL Scott I need something lasered, I do it at work... I can't afford to buy much SevenHills Vitesse's drivers require access to the standard SevenHills Page Setup dialog box, so their driver does not SevenHills work with GW III because when GW III says "condense" SevenHills their driver ignores the command. SevenHills WE, however, are working on drivers for the HP SevenHills DeskJet and LaserJet printers. They should be SevenHills released in November, and (we think) are much SevenHills better than Vitesse's. And they do work with GW III. SPEEDLIMIT Seven Hills... what about the INKJETS... they are much cheaper for the A SPEEDLIMIT average Home small business AFL Scott more for my computer but I'm going to be very careful about what I buy these AFL Scott days... I'm only supporting those companies that support the GS. Seven Hills SevenHills I'm not sure what an "inkjet" printer is...the AFL Scott and Vitesse can count on business from me, from this point on. SevenHills DeskJet printer IS an "inkjet" printer, but I'm SPEEDLIMIT Its an HP product... 300 dpi... and much cheaper SevenHills not sure I've heard a model name of "InkJet". SevenHills I'll have to look through my materials that HP sent SPEEDLIMIT Otay... then your drivers will be the DeskJet... vitesse didn't write for th SevenHills to see if there's an "InkJet" model. SPEEDLIMIT the DeskJet because it cost more ShanoJ I'm prety sure there is an InkJet model.... AFC Tosh Gotta run, Thanks SevenHills, Night all. :) SevenHills Vitesse includes drivers for the DeskJet and LaserJet printers.
