REVIEW OF TeleWorks Plus .... I was thrilled when I picked it up, turned it on, and read the little text which said it goes high-speed if the QuickPort CDA is in place. I then found out why only 25 copies sold: the dialer does not dial!! And the terminal mode doesn't talk to the modem without some trickery. After an hour or two of meddling with the program, I found out how to set up and dial out. There are no docs in the archive. Starting... Enter the Dialer, dial a number (it doesn't dial!), and click Okay when it asks when you have a carrier detect. Now... Record or write a command file which initializes the modem. That's all you need put in there. Stop recording. Save. Choose 'Startup commands' and select the thing you just wrote. Okay, now configure the terminal, modem, hardware, etc. Move over to the Edit menu item and turn off the Capture (it wants to be on). Go back to settings, click the Startup toggle (it wants to be off) and Save Settings. Go ahead and bail out of the program. Dialing... Launch the program. You should see the lights flash on the modem showing it got the init string you set. No surprise if they don't. Dial a number (it won't dial!) and click Okay when it asks when you have a carrier detect. Now's when you should set the QuickPort CDA. The terminal mode should be working now. Use ATDT to dial. It'll connect in what appears to be VT100 emulation at highest speed. Now for the caviats: The program is a GUI (yeah!) but scrolls up pretty slowly so it drops characters or even whole lines if you do not have an accellerator. It works under System 6.0.1 but it wasn't written for something so recent, so it provides its own beep. Did I mention that the dialer doesn't dial, which is a major strike? I have to wonder why it saves the scripting files with the same filetype as a CDEV. But otherwise it seems to be a okay program despite its level of difficulty to get it to dial out and character dropping >9600. There ya go... << mush >> * 2qwk! 2.04 * Consider the daffodil; I'll be looking through your stuff.
