Jonathan...
The Apple /// has a number of telecom programs to choose from, from the old
standard Access /// (last version in assembly language) on up to XMODEM ///,
a PD offering and On Three's Communications Manager, which also supports
XMODEM. I also use a version of NEXUS that is quite easy to use, but does
not support XMODEM. Com Mgr also supports Binary II by the way. We do
NOT currently have an archive standard, tho we would love to work with
Andy (of Shrinkit fame) to port it over to the ///. If that's not possible,
we intend to work with Bob Consorti of On Three to write our own archive
program. We are currently in beta test of our new OS for the /// which
is truely wonderful - integrated menu program, disk caching, password
protection, program blanking (like After Dark) and it is very fast on
our old SARAs... it works even on a 128K machine and lil ol 5 MB Profile
(of course, we can also use the latest SCSI drives or Apple Superdrive
if we prefer)... The OS upgrade was entirely funded by donations as
part of the WAP (Washington Apple Pi) Software Development Fund for
the Apple ///. Anyone interested in helping us to develop more
software upgrades (including we hope, an update to Com Manager) is
welcome to contribute by check to WAP, 7910 Woodmont Ave, Suite 910,
Bethesda, MD. 20901. Checks payable to WAP with SDF notation.
