There are many word processing programs which run on the HFApple IIc. Bank Street Writer and Magic Window are two other popular IGword processing programs which run on the Apple. Although Bank Street CAWriter and Magic Window work in much the same way as AppleWorks, GEAppleWorks can do lots of things that they can't. That's why I like AppleWorks the best.>< Before we start, let's look at some advantages of word processing:;1) You can correct errors without an eraser or White Out.IG2) You can add words or take out words or even whole sentences without #having to retype the whole paper.IG3) When you are done you can save your writing on a disk and come back =to it later and use it again or change it however you want.GEEnough talking! Let's get started. (Oh, by the way, this lesson is "being written using AppleWorks.)*FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO USE APPLEWORKSHF1) Get the disk with AppleWorks on it and a special AppleWorks data disk to save your writing on.GE2) Do you have AppleWorks and the DATA disk? Boot the Start-Up side of AppleWorks. Here's how:" 1. Start with everything off.HF 2. Open the INTERNAL disk drive by gently pushing in. Holding the GEAppleWorks disk BY THE LABEL ONLY, carefully insert it LABEL SIDE UP IGinto the internal disk drive. It will click in. Now gently push down the door to shut it.DBNOTE: NEVER TOUCH THE DISK'S SHINEY PART! NEVER SET A DISK DOWN WITHOUT ITS JACKET!IG 3. Turn on your screen--push in the rectangular switch on the right CAside. Turn on your computer--push on the top of the green power !switch in the left back corner.A?Your red disk drive light will come on as the Start-Up part of &AppleWorks loads into your computer.C3) In 11 seconds you will see this at the bottom of your screen:?Place the AppleWorks PROGRAM disk in Drive 1 and pres RETURN.GENOTE: THE APPLEWORKS DISK IS DOUBLE-SIDED: THE START-UP IS ON THE 8FRONT SIDE, AND THE PROGRAM PART IS ON THE BACK SIDE.ECOpen the INTERNAL disk drive door. You can also merge (two AppleWorks files. Lots of stuff. NOTE:FDThese instructions are just the beginning of a larger project Devin ?=Brown and Ron Romanowicz have started. Both are teachers in HFindependent schools and are eager to develop an AppleWorks manual for CAsecondary school students. I KIhope that they prove useful to someone other than myself. Let me take a !minute to describe them to you.LJ HAB.Form 1099 and HAB.1099.PAYEES were used to report information to NLmy accountant so that he could prepare 1099s for my employees. The figures HFwere derived from Dollars and $ense files, before these were directly $transferable to AW via a DIF file.KI HAB.ACCTS.PAYAB is a report that I update daily, as bills come into Gthe office. Once a week, as I pay my bills, I delete the paid items.LJ HAB.ADDRESSES is a multiple use file. The CATEGORY category enables KIme to keep my various acquaintances on one file (handy for mass mailings MKlike birth announcements) but still work with only one part at a time when B@appropriate. I have separated people into family, friends, and NLfellow-members of various organizations. I find this last very useful when sending out newsletters.LJ HAB.MAIN.RECORD and HAB.GRADE.CALC are two of the files I set up for LJmy husband, a high school math teacher. He also has subsidiary files for NLhomework and test grades, but these are pretty easy to derive from the main Gdata base file, so I haven't included them to save space on the disk.NL HAB.YTD.86 is the main file that I use for my business...it enables me JHto track all the activity for each case from the time the job is booked KIuntil the client pays his bill. The report formats associated with that LJfile give you an idea of the range of information I derive from this file on a weekly basis.MK HAB.CALC.PG.CHG is something that I created to help my office manager MKcheck the calculations on reporters' bills submitted to us for payment. I B@wish there was a way to get the data base to scan this file and LJautomatically (or even semi-automatically) insert the correct amount into LJthe RB AMT category on the YTD.86 file, but I guess Appleworks isn't that integrated yet.NL HAB.Util.Cost is something I worked up to challenge the assumptions of NLa utilities consultant hired by my landlord. My figures didn't turn out to KIbe different enough from his to make it worthwhile arguing with him, but @the methodology could be used to check any sort of extensions.MK HAB.YR.END.CALC is something that I created near the end of last year JHto give me rough closing numbers before the accountant got in to do the Greal closing balances. It came in handy in determining bonuses, etc.MK I hope that any or all of these will prove useful to other members of MKTAWUG. I would be happy to serve as a regional rep if you need someone in !the New York metropolitan area.MK Do you have a catalogue of what is on those ten disks you have? It's Ihard to know which ones I might want to look at just from side numbers.5 I look forward to hearing from you again soon./ Sincerely,: Helene Audrey Bergman; Acme Reporting ServiceA 132 Nassau Street, Room 1401= New York, New York 10038P"O=====|====|====|====|====|====|====|====|====|====|====|====|====|====|====|===," UAA ACME REPORTING SERVICE132 NASSAU STREET, ROOM 1401NEW YORK, NEW YORK 10038FEDERAL ID # 13-333333 Payee name Address;ID # Amount pd Relationship9Janet Tracy $870.40 typist357 West Pica AvenueElite, NJ 07777 999-88-7777UDD/ last name1 first namestreet addresscitystatezipss# relationshipOBrezhnevLewisBox 4, Utopia Pond Rural CornersNY12222 123-45-6789reporterDBaylorLinda1111 Postal RouteHobokenNJ00000 987-65-4321typistHKnorrAllan7381 Shady Hway DebitvilleNY11000 444-44-4444 accountantGSereneAlfred 2888 Easy St BoringvilleNY12345 111-00-0000 messenger?zcDD/ PAYEEory 1 ST.ADDRESSC/S/ZCATEGORY BILL DATEAMOUNTDUE DATE-DATE PD # INVOICE #ACCT # BILLS TO PAY !
