Registers in thousands or revolutions per minute (RPMs), the rotational speed of your drive shaft. The bigger the number, the harder your engine is working. If you workit too hard or 'RED LINE' - that is push the tach needle into the red area - you'll blow your precious horseopower right out of the talepipe! ( Whatch for SMOKE in the rear view mirror) STEERING WHEEL: If you dont know what this is then why bother reading this? RADAR DETECTOR: Located on sun visor in the upper left of windshield. A blinking light means its on. If the light flashes and beeps, slow to the speed limit, becuase lurking nearby us your worst nightmare: A state Trooper with (1) an attitude (2) a s shortfall on his weekly quota. Of course you can try to outrun the cock sucker. But you better be good. POLICE A cop will chase you until you outrun him or he passes you. In the latter chase, you must stop yur engine and get a ticket. (getting a ticket is not a good thing. Not only do your insurance rates go up. bit the clock is stil running and you losse valuable time). If you crash into a cop the game is over. And that is justice. SPEEDOMETER: Near the middle of the dashboard. You cant miss it. For the European cars its measured in KPH (kilometers per hour) here is a small chart to help you. For the recore one KPH is equal to .62MPH. ________________________________________________________________________________t KPH=MPH KPH=MPH 375=232.5 225=139.5 350=217 200=124 300=186 175=108.5 275=170.5 150=93 250=155 125=77.5 ________________________________________________________________________________ GEARSHIFT: To Make it appear and disppear from the screen prees D. If the displat is off, the gear shift appears only breify when you shift. DOTS AT OP OF SCREEN: These are moving dots (three are possible if you're challenging, two if you're racing solo against the clock.) They move across the top of the screen during each leg of race, starting at the left side at the beginning and ending at the white mark above the radar screen which represents the gas station ( the finish line of that leg) The dots represent the cars in the rac - yours, the computers and the cops. You are the first dot at the start (blue) followed by the computer (red) and the cops (he only appears when he is in persuit)(white). The dots let you see quickly how much of the rac is left, and how you are doing relative to competition. TAKE A TRIP : LIVES: You start with five. which is less then a cat gets. But its still pretty generous. You loos on each time you crash or get a penalty but you gain one each time you re-fuel. PENALTIES: You lose a life and get a 20-second penalties ( added to your time) if you crach, blow an engine or run out of gas. GAS: when the two white lines pop up beside the gs station stand on the brake and pull onto your side of the road. If you dont stop between the lines you cant re-fuel. Thats not good - and youll find out why in a few miles. SHIFT: To shift up, hold the joystick up and press the fire button ( or hold down X and press A ). To shift down, hold the joystick down and press the Fire Button ( hold down X and press Z). ROAD HAZARDS: Rocks, signs , potholes and other such annoyances will not only slow you down but damage yor steering ability, suspention, engine and other integral parts. If you have too many , your car wont run. That means a 20-second penalty and loss of life. RESSERECTIONS: After each crash or penalty, press the Fire Button or Return to continue the duel. If you run out of lives... Well cheer up, even Rome fell. Dont quit. ________________________________________________________________________________l HOW TO USE THE INSTALL OPTION: One one of the volumes now is a program called "Supercars" -- this is the xtra car disk for Test Drive II. Here are the instructions: After you boot up the Master Disk for Test Drive II and you want to use the Car Disk you must assign the Car Disk to a drive. You will then be instructed to insert your Car Disk into the assigned drive. At that time, a serial number is assigned to that disk. Once that number is assigned, Play Disks can be created with that Car Disk ONLY with the Master Disk that was in use when the serial number was assigned. Start TDII as you normally would, then: 1. Highlight INSTALL on the Setup screen & press return. 2. When Install Menu appears highlight CAR DISK and press return (the word "none" disappears. 3. Type "/supercars" [the name of the car disk] & press return. 4. Highlight EXIT, press return, and you'll be prompted to insert a Car Disk. Follow all on-screen instructions. 5. When you return to the Setup screen, highlight YOUR CAR and press return. When the Car Selection screen appears, use your joystick or keypad to scroll through the available cars. These include the F40, the 959, and any car on the Car Disk. When the car you want to drive appears, press return and follow all on-screen directions. 6. Highlight OTHER CAR and press return. Again, the Car Selection screen appears. Use your joystick or keypad to scroll through the available cars. When the car you want to drive against appears, press return and folow all on-screen directions. When the screen dissolves back to the Setup screen, your choice will be pictured in the Other Car box, and you can now begin the race.
