CopyControl __________________________________________________________________ CopyControl is an Apple IIgs Finder extension INIT file that vastly increases the copy options you have in the IIgs Finder, making Finder much more flexible and useful as a file copy utility. CopyControl allows you to copy only changed, newer, or files already existing on the destination disk. There is also an option to clear the Òbackup neededÓ bit of the source files. Note: CopyControl *REQUIRES* System Disk 6.0 or greater. Using CopyControl Using CopyControl is extremely simple. Once youÕve installed it on your system, all you need to do to use it is to hold down the control key when copying the files (dragging the icons). You will be presented with a dialog box with the following check boxes present: [] Copy only changed files [] Copy only newer files [] Copy only files existing on destination [] Clear backup bits of source files You can select more than one box. The first option, ÒCopy only changed filesÓ, means that only files with their backup needed bits set (new files and files that have been written to since the backup needed bit was last cleared) will be copied. The second option copies files which are newer than the file on the destination disk with the same name. The third option restricts all copies to files that are already present in the destination folder. This option may be used in conjunction with the first two options to produce ÒCopy only changed files that exist in destination folderÓ and ÒCopy only newer files that exist in destination foldersÓ. Without option three checked, the first option copies all changed files and the second option copies all newer and new files. The final option will clear the Òbackup neededÓ bit of the source files, indicating that a backup is no longer needed for these files. Even when using CopyControl, Finder will still just do a move instead of a copy when you drag files from one part of a volume to another. YouÕll still need to hold down the Option key to do a copy from one part of a volume to another (i.e. CopyControl does not affect this standard function in Finder; Option-dragging works whether youÕre holding down Control or not when CopyControl is installed).
