This is a source-code only distribution written in ANSI-standard C. It works best when
compiled with GCC 2.7.2, but should work on any ANSI C compiler.

Copy this file to your Unix system (use hcopy if you're running MkLinux for Power Macintosh) and untar it by typing "tar -xzvf xgs-0.28.tar.gz". This will create an "xgs" directory with the source distribution inside. Read the README file, edit the Makefile, and type "make" to compile.

By default it will look for its support files (xgs.rom, etc.) in the directory /usr/local/etc/xgs. You can change this in the header file include/xgs.h if you wish.
